Default C5 Bass Enclosure

I'm about 1/2 way done on my rear hatch enclosure project. The stock cover was replaced with a 1/2" plywood board (2x4 ~$15 from Home Depot) and cut it into 24" x 26". The carpet (black, 6 feet x 3 feet ~$10) was bought at Pep Boys. Carpet looks very good, thinner that stock but should be ok. Fitment of new enclosure is excellent and now I am working on ways to "tie" down the cover with wingnut screws.

For the front, 6.5" speakers with new wood templates were made and 2 dome tweets added to pillar.

In the back are 2 amps , 4ch for the sub and rear speakers, and other amp drives the fronts.

Just bought a DEH 77 Pioneer 1.5 din radio and cannot wait to hear the results.

I junked the Bose since I was getting ignition noise and found out the source came from the RCA cables I soldered in. That was not acceptable, so out it went.

I will follow with pictures when the project is completed.

How come u didn't go with a dedicated sub amp for the subs and a 4ch amp for the fronts and rears?

Speed Racer,

Are you removing the carpet in the center compartment in order to get a good seal with the fiberglass surface? Let us know how fasten it down and seal it up.

thanks

The new hardwood i'm using is very heavy and coupled with the speaker weight, makes a pretty good seal with the carpet. I finished the install fri nite and the bass is now very solid and hits hard and no longer "muddy". This is definitely better. Sealing the compartment will be the next issue, but I'm likely to stay with it this way. BTW - the way I designed the cover, it fits under the amp box I made so the cover cannot come off without much pulling.

I should have gone for a class "D" sub amp now I think about it, but if you followed my story, I had originally used the stock BOSE radio with custom RCA's and 1 amp driving the rear, and stock radio driving the fronts. I found out the fronts were way too quiet and the rear overpowered everything, and pulled the system and replaced with a DEH-77 pioneer 1.5din deck.

I'm very happy, and finally got the sound I was looking for!

I have the pics, but need to upload them.

Stay tuned.
