I have looked through out the audio threads and not found alot specific to the 1986 model. My main concern is should I use a seperate sub or put them in the rear 6x9 holes? I have always liked fill speakers but don't know if I need it for the vette though it would probably help when I'm with out the top. Also is it very difficult to install 6.5" seperates in the doors? Saw a post where some one said they had to cut the door. Lastly I didn't find anything about putting a 2 din unit in the 1.5 din space. Has anyone done it and is is difficult? I spent hours last night looking to no avail, any links or hints would be appreciated. Once again thanks to all you guys for the help.
A 2 Din would not work without Major modifications to the dash.
It depends on how much bass you want, a 10" sub is what most members use but, it'll take up space unless you hide it in the storage compartments which takes a bit of work to modify. 6x9's will fit in the rear speaker enclosures but, you'll have to drill new mounting holes and 6x9's don't really provide enough bass IMO.
6.5" speakers will require trimming of the door panel for mounting but, is not hard to do depending on your skill level.
Rear fill is not needed in the C4 Vette.
A good basic system for the earlier C4 Vettes 84-89 is a headunit, metra dash kit, amplifier, 5 1/4" components and a 10" subwoofer and enclosure (could also use an amplified subwoofer).
OK well I've been doing some looking around. Here's what I've come up with:
Pioneer AVHP5100DVD with Sirius, Bluetooth, and IPOD.
Alpine SPS600c 6.5 components.
Alpine sps609 6x9's
Alpine MRPF 300
Alpine MRPM 500
2 JL Audio 8"subs in a custom box up against the rear.
If I can get a deal on the headunit, I would rather have the Pioneer AVIC N5 or the Alpine IVA D106.
All of this can be had installed for under $2000.00. I will post pictures after I'm done. Should be no more than a couple of weeks.
