Default C5 vert sub location help

Hey guys I'm trying to find a place to put one 8" JBL sub. I have it in a box sitting on my center compartment braced from below. I want to be able to hear it equally well with the top up or down and be able to throw luggage over the compartments in the rear.

So really I am just wondering if anyone has come up with something to mount in front of the folded down top and behind the seats? I didn't really like them pointed right at the back of my head like the new C6 stealth boxes. Anyone have something in mind?

Thanks,

Chris

get a custom box for the center bin. There are 2 versions:

Flush mount - The box sits at the height of the surrounding space. The sub itself is exposed for optimal sound quality. The downside is with the sub exposed, you'll want a grille to protect it when you throw stuff in the trunk.

Stealth mount - The box sits slightly below the surrounding space. This allows the center bin cover to be installed with the box in place for a stealth look (hence the name) The downside is that this can cause rattling and the output can be slighty less with the bin cover on.

TRF: Thanks for the reply,

Right now I have the sub crossed over at 400hz to get more sound out it. My door speakers are component 5 1/4 inch and a tweeter (polk audio). I had the sub crossed over at 100hz but it didn't feel like It put out near as much sound, obviously just the low bass. Should I plan on putting some 6" woofers on a board mounted on each side of the waterfall and then keep the subwoofer at 100hz?

Thanks for the input man;

My concern is even with a 12 back there. I feel like I'm missing something up front. Maybe I'm just underpowering the front speakers. I have a 200 watt Alpine amp putting 150 watts bridged to the sub and 25 watts a side to the front.

I was thinking of getting another amp to just power the sub and putting 100 watts a side to the front if I can do that with this amp. My other thought was adding 2 - 6" woofers (one on either side of the water fall) and running 50 watts a speaker to the front. I'm not sure which would be better?

go to more power and you should be set. IMO you need roughly 100 wrms per speaker, and a solid 3-400 for the sub

I may have to get a new amp but I am hoping I can run the front components on 100 watts a channel (it's a 4 channel amp- Ill have to look back at the instructions on that), and get a separate amp for the subs. I'm going to plan on putting two eights one on each side of the waterfall. I took my eight out of the sub box last night and I think I can make a box to fit.

Here's a question; Does it matter where the majority of the box volume is located? For example an "L" shaped box where the box is shallow just behind the speaker but the leg of the L to the side holds the greatest volume. I assume that is not Ideal but will it hurt performance much?

Thanks,

Chris

Well I was able to put an 8" sub on either side of the waterfall and the amps just behing them. I am currently in the process of finishing the box and wiring everything up. I'll post pics when I'm done. I haven't seen anyone else put subs in this spot in a C5 vert. I hope that's not because someone else has already done it and everone knows it's not a good idea, lol.

I did this with my C5 before trading it when I as on R&R. I had a 10" kicker dual coil with a 500w Soundstream amp with the crossover set at 80. It was obnoxious and sounded great with the top up or down. There was still a ton of trunk space and I could easily fit my luggage, golf clubs, and a hard case with my shot gun in the trunk. Not bad.

I used to have the instructions to build the box but sadly they've been lost over the years. Unfortunately i can't remember the member who sent them to me. I still have the box if there are any takers interested but willing to wait until I get back from deployment sometime next month
