I recently sold my base 1LT radio to another forum member. He has the shop manual and it appears that the shop manual is saying that he needs to mate the radio to the car. Is this the case? If so I assume anyone with a Tech II can perform this operation? The buyer has a 2007 1LT and the radio came out of my 2008 1LT. His car has the base system as mine did. Anyone know if you need to mate the radio to the car via the Tech II? I thought you only needed to do this with the factory NAV system.
Thanks!
-Mike
Is this the part where I call you Monsieur Dumas for asking somebody other than me?
ALL of the factory radios require Tech II programming to marry them to the VIN stored in the car's BCM, not just the NAV radio. So yes, the guy who bought the radio will have to trek to a dealer or service shop that has a Tech II programmer to get that taken care of. Monsieur Dumas.
So, im the one who's doing the install - got the "locked" display. i saw a post about resetting the radio code. will this work?
"UNLOCK RADIO
The following procedure will give you a new code that you can use instead of your personal code. Using this new code, you can “unlock” your radio and then “re-lock” it with a new code if you wish. Prerequisites: The radio must be in LOC mode NOT in INOP mode. Let me explain. If you have activated the Theft-Deterrent feature of your radio and loose power, the radio goes into LOC (theftlock) mode. With the ignition on, you must use the MN and HR buttons to enter you personal code in order to unlock it (The instructions are on page 3-27 in your Y2K Owner’s manual). If you fail to enter the correct code eight (8) times, the radio goes into INOP mode. You have to wait an hour with the ignition on before the radio returns to LOC mode (go for a long drive somewhere). Procedure: 01. Turn the ignition ON (The radio displays LOC) 02. Hold down the Radio Presets 2 and 3 buttons for six seconds 03. The radio display changes from LOC to a three-digit number. Write this number down. Don’t take forever, fifteen seconds max before the next step. 04. Press the AM/FM button 05. The radio display changes to another three-digit number. Write this number to the right of the first one. 06. You now have a six-digit number, the first three digits are from STEP 03 and the last three digits are form STEP 05 07. Call 1 800 537 5140 08. Press 1 then # (pound). You’ll hear “Invalid Code, try again” 09. Press 139010 then # (pound). You will be asked to enter your four or six digit code followed by * (start) 10. Enter the number from STEP 6 then * (star) 11. Listen to the four-digit number and write it down. It will be repeated twice 12. Turn the ignition ON (The radio displays LOC) 13. Use the MN and HR buttons to enter the code from STEP 11 14. Press the AM/FM button. The radio display changes to SEC Your radio is now “un-locked” and usable. The Theft-Deterrent feature is STILL active! If you want to disable it, use the instruction on page 3-27 in your Y2K Owner’s manual. Use the code from STEP 11 instead of your personal code. Note: This tip originated from LOTZAHP, Austin TX"
probably a stupid question, but what is my personal code? oh, and by the way, mike did a great job getting this radio to me, thanks!

I think you have out of date info there, not sure which generation that is, but it doesn't apply to C6 as far as I know. Regardless the programming that is required CANNOT be done through the car itself, it has to be done using a special tool called a "Tech II" programmer. This programmer interfaces with the BCM (Body Control Module). Every factory radio when it gets installed locks itself to the car's VIN that is stored in the BCM. This is a measure to discourage theft of these radios as they can only be used in the car they're programmed to without dealer/service technician intervention.
Unfortunately you have to get yourself to a dealership or a service shop that has a Tech II programmer. From what I have read it's not very complicated to do even for a tech that has never done it before, just a matter of finding it in the menu structure when you access the car's BCM.
got it, thanks for the info. in the middle of doing the radio swap, i hooked the battery back up and turned the radio on to make sure it was working, thats when i got the "locked" display. i then disconnected the battery and buttoned everything back up, reconnected the battery, and now the radio is unlocked. i assume that this is only good until the next time the radio looses electricity? anyway, it gave me a chance to test the radio and it seems to be working fine. the only difference is that you have to flip the wiring connector upside down to plug it in. as far as the radio is concerned, the '08 radio does not have a mid-range eq, only bass and treble, which gives it a bit of a scooped out sound. no big deal, i'll take the aux jack over a mid eq any day. i'll just have to make a "car" setting on the ipod eq. thanks again for the help!
found a shop with a techii that managed to interface with the car's computer, but after navigating to the "CD Radio" menu under the "Y" cars menu, it says "no communication" with the radio. techii displays this for all the other radio options as well (like "Digital Radio" etc.) guy at shop suggested putting the original radio back in to see what options the scanner gives for it. he said that if the scanner can communicate with the original radio, then there is likely a module in the '08 radio that isn't compatible with the '07 car's computer. before i tear into my dash again, any suggestions? does anybody know the exact steps to navigate to unlock this radio? thx

Adis, Did you finally resolve this issue and make the 2008 radio work in your 2007 car? How?
