All,
I've had it with the Bose nav unit in my '06. The navigation is ok but the poor sound quality and the lack of features sucks. I'm putting this together in my head right now and I'm hung up on the door speakers. Can anyone suggest a good pair of 6.5" speakers for the doors? And more importantly where can I hear them? All of the stereo shops I've been to in Orange County (5) don't have the 6.5" speakers on display for sampling. I don't want to dump a bunch of money into the speakers to find out I don't like them. Help!
Speakers can be very subjective: something you like, someone else may not. Also, price is a factor. How much are you willing to spend? The top brands are Dynaudio, Focal, Morel and Seas. Pioneer Premier are good, along w/ Polk, Alpine and Hertz. What kind of an amp are you going to use? How much power you'll be sending the new speakers also has a part in determining which speakers to go w/. Also, speaker placement will have an effect on how the speaker sounds.
As you can see, lots of things to consider. And you still need to find a place to listen to speakers. Maybe someone w/ a C6 in your area could let you listen to their car?

Go to crutchfield.com and search their car speakers 6.5 you should find just what your looking for at a fair price. you can also speak to tech support and they will help you out. My .02 depending on the HU you have or purchase you may want to hook up an amp to give the speakers that extra pop. G/L What are you going to do w/the old bose system. I may know someone looking to replace he broken one.
I'll be selling the old nav unit. It is as new in factory perfect condition. I'll probably be running a small Alpine amp at 150 watts/channel or so. I will only have speakers in the doors and a sub in the back. I need to hear anything before I buy it so Crutchfield won't be much help.
good luck finding a place where u can demo good equipment. just remeber almost anything will be better then blowse. a pdx4.100 or 4.150 should be plenty adequate
Also if you do find something to audition, make sure you bring material to listen to that YOU know very well, and be sure they do not have a sub playing in the background. Also be sure that you are listening to a similar level of power when you audition them as you will be running, as 2-3x more power can change things dramatically.
Other advice given here on brands is good, I liked my Pioneer Premier 720 prs set of components a lot, took power well, and the factory crossover is actually pretty decent.
