I've owned many radar detectors including the V1, but I must tell you all the "uniden GPSRD" is by far the best. Its a detector and GPS. What is really nice is its anti-false data base. It only falses once per false signal. Its GPS database stores the false's location, radar type/strenght and will only sound if a stronger signal is detected the next time.
It even will store 8 waypoints and has directions to 1,200 American cities.
I eventually grew tired of legacy type detectors (all w/o GPS) because of the falsing. I decided to forgo the warnings and just do the speed limit w/o any detector
Even the V1 with its fancy arrows was a pain. The Uniden GPSRD has arrows also, they tell you how to find a waypoint.
It also displays your direction, speed, lat.and long.and time to destination and all that for $210. Trust me guys its the best accesory you can get. I know the V1 owners think they have it all with the arrows. What good is an arrow unless it tells you where you need to turn??
A radar detector alerts you of when a police radar gun or laser gun is transmitting in your direction. The V1 arrows answer your first question when your detector alerts, and that is, where is the source? A GPS is a navigation aid. You have the two confused. A GPS can't do anything to alert you to the fact that someone is attempting to measure your speed!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I use my Valentine and find the arrows and numbers to be quite useful. I also use a Destinator with my Compaq iPAQ Pocket PC as a GPS system. It also has voice commands for directions. I believe having 2 separate devices gives more utility and flexibility. Both are portable, and I use them in rental cars when I travel. http://www.destinator1.com
Reread his post then read about the detector. GPS CAN help you.
1. It's preprogrammed with KNOWN photoradar sites.
2. It won't false if you hit the same lat/long with the same signal intensity <a burglar in a store that you drive by on your way to work!>
3. plus it gives you directions!
Question about the GPS function on this detector. I looked at the Uniden website and it isn't very detailed. How does it work? How does it give directions? Arrows? Display that says "Turn Left"? Any audible commands? How do you select your destination? Does it have street names or is it done by lat and long? This thing sounds really cool, but I need more info.
Real interesting reading, especially the Feature Comparison Chart. Not one thing listed has anything to do with its ability to detect radar or laser. And one of the major features listed is 12 new colors   And in their store it states "This item is in NEW condition." What? they not making them anymore and only selling reconditioned units?

very pricy combo. with the price of the compac at $500 and the price of the Destinator $330. I could think of other things to spend $800 on.
