Default Sony MP3 in stock C5

I have a 2002 coupe with stock HU and no CD changer. Can someone tell me what I need to hook up my Sony Walkman mp3 player through the HU? Currently I'm running an FM transmitter which is a PIA. I assume I need an AUX-Box of some type and cables for my mp3. Will that charge the mp3 while listening to it? Who has the best prices on the things I need. Thanks for the help.

Take a look in the FAQ at the top of the Audio section. Here is the link in case you missed it:

There is a post in there that describes how to hook up an iPod or an XM Commander. Both use an "aux' input, so I would assume that you could do something similar using your Sony MP3 player. Link to the XM Commander:

As for the charging portion, I don't know of anything that works directly with the Sony. Do they sell a car kit of some kind? If so, then I would think that you could connect the output to the aux-in and be good to go. You would still need to control the MP3 player directly, rather than through the stock HU.

Good luck.

I got a Peripheral Aux Input Kit 2 for Chevrolet (PXDXCHEV2) for $74.99, from TSS radio. The Aux kit is $53 from them and you can get the cable adapter cheaper ($7.95) from others, but I went with this one from the same supplier, free shipping.

You have to disconnect the 12 disk player and plug in the cable adapter from there into the AUX box. From there your MP3 player to the AUX box. Be sure to check the Peripheral web page for the correct dip switch settings (3 & 8 on). You can find this link from the folks you buy it from.

As far as charging goes, we are out of luck on this unless you want to build something extra. I'm thinking about doing this, but it just means more wiring and stuff. I just plug mine into the work or home computer to charge the MP3 over the USB cable. I usually down load more music at the same time. If you want charging you need to go to an ipod and the Peripheral box for ipod. I just was not going to buy an ipod, MP3s are just too cheap (so am I).

I got a 2GB unit for $30 and then some extra memory (8GB) that will plug into my MP3. They say 2GB gives about 32 hours of programing. So now I can work to find, rip, and install 150 hours of songs. Sounds like I won't be driving very much. So for less than an ipod I got all this stuff.

There have been some good threads on this forum on how tos and who makes the stuff. I kind of gave up surfing looking at it all and TSS radio seemed to be where I stopped. enjoy

Oh yeah! I went looking for some chargers and extra usb cables for my MP3 player. Check out www.monoprice.com maybe they have stuff for your MP3. They have a car charger for my MP3 for $2.72. This takes all the fun out of building someting.
