Well, I have areplacement radio tuner for my 92 and am ready to install it.
I know it's under the dash someplace. Can anyone give me some tips on getting it out. Do I remove the glove box, knee panel, radio or what to get to it? Someone that has done it please share your knowledge with a newbie. :D
92,
I am not sure if you are referring to the receiver head unit, or the tuner. I have a set of instructions for removing the receiver and will post them here if you would like, but the tuner is another issue.
I just spent 2 hours ripping my interior apart trying to locate the tuner, and finally found it directly under the main fuse block on the passenger side. If you remove the passenger knee bolster cover, and remove the fuse panel cover and trim, you can see the tuner if you look up while laying on the side of the car.
I can honestly say that there is no way in hell that I would remove it. I am installing a JVC double din replacement CD/Stereo/Cassette, and the only reason I wanted to locate the unit was to unplug the outlet connector so I could install the Crutchfield Integration Harness.
The integration harness allows you to use the Bose system with the replacement stereo.
I plan to write a procedure for all this once I master the replacement. Stay tuned!

Holy cow.....sounds like a b*tch to get at. Yes I believe it's called the tuner. Not the head unit, but the thingie up under the dash. It all works except I can't pick up any radio stations. Sounds like I have a tough job to do...Thanks for the info....I guess...
Are you sure that you don't have an antenna problem? The antenna plugs into the top of the tuner module. I doubt that it is unplugged at the tuner, but a faulty antenna wire or a bad antenna can cause the problems you are referring to.

You could be right about the antenna. I thought at first that was probably it.
The thing that made me believe it's the tuner is the last time I checked it, I could change station and it kept playing the same some from just one station.
We'll see...
If that's the case, it might just be the control unit (head unit) and not the tuner module that is messed up. It is much more typical to have this go bad before the receiver does. The antenna is also a decent lead but I'd have the head checked out first. Yes, the receiver is nasty to get at. You may want to buy those shop manuals you've wanted to get a good look at it. its way up under the dash above the fuse box. I never had to remove one, usually just left it in and replaced the deck. You may find it easier to get at by removing the dash pad altogether.
I guess I should have mentioned that the head unit and all speakers/amps have just been changed out. Same problem with radio reception. I turned it on yesterday. Radio came in pretty good signal, but I could only hear one station no matter what the dial said.
I have the same problem with mine. CD/Tape works great, but no radio reception. I have the shop manuals, however, it appears that it will be a challenge to replace even with help from the manual. I will stay tuned for how your changeout goes. I want to get the tuner repaired, but, like yourself, was overwhelmed with the prospect of taking the thing out. I also need to replace the capacitors in the right front speaker amp.
