Default Experience with Infinity Kappas?

I have a C6 and was thinking of replacing the factory speakers. I'm not looking to invest a lot in the audio system as I prefer the sound of the exhaust. I would love to hear some opinions from anyone that has gone with the Kappas. Thanks!

I'm not a fan of infiniti speakers. I find them to sound shrill and have very strange sounding midrange.

Polk momo is a bit better, in the price range.

I had 4 in my 2002 Z28 for about a week. WAAAAAYYYYYY too bright for my taste. Almost painfully bright. I pulled them out and sold them.

I had some Infinitys in my car at first, they were very bright, as stated above. Bright speakers in a small interior like a vette is a bad idea, spend a little more money and go w/ the Pioneer Premier or Polk speaker.

I'm going to watch this thread. As far as Infinity, I had a set of 6.5 inch Kappas in my Toyota MR2 Spyder. They sounded real shrill and I couldn't tone down the highs from the tweets. Way to bright and would not provide much bass from the woofer cones either. I have this thread going now http://forums.corvetteforum.com/audi...-question.html you might want to follow mine as well.

I'm not sure about the 6.5 comps, but I KNOW that the Kappa Perfect 12 in the right box is one of the best SQ woofers I've ever heard...for the price anyway.

If you want a really nice sounding set of comps, go with the DLS UP6.5's. They are IMHO one of the best sounding entry level components available. The soft dome tweeters they make are VERY smooth, and the 6.5's do a nice job in the mid range, and mid bass. Five stars from the Beasty....

If you want, I can get them at cost, and ship them to you for probably 250.-275. or so...

Pair that with a 2 channel DLS amp, and you will have REALLY nice sound.

After listening to various 3.5" speakers, I'm now leaning toward the JL Audio brand. As per most people's opinions, the Kappas seemed to fall a little short of other speakers in the same price range. I have searched and couldn't really find anyone that has reported on the JL Audio 3.5" speakers. Seems like lots of people use their amps, subs, and components though. Guess most people aren't as cheap as I am.

He probably doesn't want to loose the door subs.

I have some new (never installed) BA S35's that I'll send you for $45 shipped if you want them. I bought them to replace the Clarion 3.5's that I've been using, but never quite got around to installing them. Now that I'm installing components, they're just taking up space in my garage. I can take paypal, or snail mail is fine also, I'm not in any hurry to get rid of them.

Are they shrill, no. Are they clear, yes, extremely. There is a -6db button on the 2 sets I run and it tones it down quite nicely. I run my HU with the crossover at 80Khz (think it's Khz)for the speakers and the Sub. I get a lot of mid bass from the 6.5's. I can feel the bass considering the cut off. This is with the sub off. I do have RAAMAT and Ensolite in/on my doors. Made a great improvement. Don't get the Kappa Perfects, they have the titanium tweets and are to clear. To much high. I like the regular Kappas with the soft dome tweeters.

Head Unit: Clarion DXZ785USB /w 160G external hard drive
Front: Speakers: Infinity Kappa 60.9CS
Rear: Speakers: Infinity Kappa 52.9i
Sub: Infinity Kappa Perfect 10DVQ
Amplifier (s): Infinity Reference 475A 4 Channel (Front/Rear)
Infinity Reference 1600A (Sub)
Box: ZEnclosures, Flush Mount

It's not the sound of high frequency clarity, it's the sound of high frequency coloration and distortion.
