Default DNX8120 in and working

Big thanks to Pentavolvo for a lot of help!

Only one issue to go. Put the Garmin GXM30 antenna in and although the XM got a good signal, got nothing on the GPS.

Put the little gps antenna that came with the radio in and Voila, gps.

So everything is working, but instead of one antenna I'm using two.

Kenwood support didn't have a good idea Friday, gonna to call them again tomorrow with the latest troubleshooting info. I'm starting to think I got a bad GXM30 on the gps side.

Pictures to follow when I get it back together.

I just got a brand new one yesterday with the rear camera for $900 which I thought was a pretty good deal. Look forward to seeing your pic to see how your install came out. From everything I've heard this an awesome unit.

There's a couple of things I don't like so far -- can't keep the time up on every screen and no direct channel input for my XM. Other than that, I'm liking it.

Of course I haven't driven it anywhere with the gps working yet as I'm waiting to talk to Kenwood.

Default Some pics

Here's the nav unit in night mode. This led me to read the manual, where I found the nav unit will switch the HU to night mode as will the light sensing circuit:

The Metra insert was sanded and painted just as others here have written. I started with 600 grit, got bored, went to 300, then 150. Then started back up with 300, 400, 600, and 1000. I wetsanded the 600 and 1000, then sprayed the Krylon clear with matte finish. The finish is perfect, the color is slightly off in some lighting. Not really enough to bother, just enough to tell it's not original.

Here's a picture of the XM mode:

Kenwood support says that Sirius direct channel input is available, but not XM. Bummer. The manual doesn't quite read that way but then again their example does use Sirius only.

Here's a picture of a DVD playing:

The other costume she wears in this video was much different. Of course she's much different now :-)

Default Thanks to Pentavolvo

I just want to say one more time, "Big thanks to Pentavolvo for all his help!"

Thanks to everyone else who's posted their experiences and photos, those really helped too. I can't remember everyone's name on those as I looked at everyone I could find.

I have the DDX812 and I'm finding that the scolling and selecting in the USB music list is slow and lagging at times. Do you experience this?
I'm wondering if the new DNX9120 is faster.

It was very smooth, the harness made a world of difference. Literally made it a plug and play install

Beers on me whenever we get a chance!

I'm wondering about the Metra Dash Kit.
I recently purchased a DNX9140 w/ all of the req'd interfaces, and the Metra 95-3304 Kit.
I was expecting to sand and paint the Metra Kit, but it was a smooth flat black, and it matched the AC surround perfectly.
I thought the part numbers were the same for the 8120 vs the 9140.
Can someone explain ?

I bought this:
http://www.crutchfield.com/S-GSaJbaZ...t.html?tp=3121
I got there by doing a search on the Metra 95-3304. Everything else came from Amazon but I couldn't find a dash kit there for some reason.

Anyway, the finish the one I bought was slightly "roughened." It would not have looked too bad but would have been more obviously different than when I sanded it.

Maybe the kit or the trim has changed slightly? I have an 2005 C6.

Yes.. I see the texture on the trim in the link you posted.
I have a 2007 C6 Cpe. The Metra kit was ordered thru the stereo shop I deal with.
In the pic I attached, there is a shade difference. But honestly I don't notice it.

I believe you misunderstood the GXM-30. It isn't an XM/GPS antenna, it is an XM antenna with NAVTraffic receiver built in.
You need both.

Don't have pics, may get them later today. Going to build a little bracket like others have used here to sit the GXM30 inside the dash speaker hole.
Good pics here: http://forums.corvetteforum.com/audi...oto-heavy.html

Right now the GXM30 is sitting beside the hole where the speaker was, and the gps antenna is sitting on top of the defroster vent on the left side.

With the dash speaker mesh off it's real easy to place them.

i just went to lowes and got a strip of 1/2" alluminum and bent a u shape backet and drilled a hole on each end to line up with the center speaker mounting tabs. I also plugged my factory GPS antenna in to the Kenwood and has worked great.

If you use something made out of steel the magnet on the antenna will hold it in place.

Here's mine

I just put the metallic plate that came with my Kenwood on top of the AC duct behind the radio bezel and stuck the GPS antenna on top of that. It works fine and is totally concealed. I then got an XM extension cable off of ebay and used the factory XM antenna and it works great.

I could not use the center speaker location as I wanted to keep On Star and that is where I get the On Star sound from since I removed all other pieces of the factory system.
