You can get switched from the pigtail, but to retain RAP you'd need something like this. There are several brands available, and the AV is the most expensive, but I tried two of the other brands in my '01 and neither worked properly. The AV was perfect from day one

there are 4 wires:
power, ground, output to remote lead and a databus 2 wire. I tapped the Databus wire from the purple wire under the drivers's side dash that connects to the OBD II plug.
