Default Valentine one questions

hey everyone. new to this section of the forum. i have a valentine one and need some answers.

1. i have owned the detector for about 8 years, bought it brand new. within the last two years or so it has not always picked up certain types of radar/laser. any ideas on why not? i know the device still works because when it DOES pick up radar/laser, it does exactly what it should. just sometimes i pass cops/speed monitors and don't get a warning. other times i do. what gives?

2. i looked up my serial number online. because it is so old, is there a newer version than the one i am running? i don't have the exact software number, but like i said, the device is about 8 years old.

thanks in advance for everyone's help. also, if this has been discussed, i would love a link to the thread as i performed a search and couldn't find anything.

Valentine will upgrade older units to their newest version, you can call to see if you have an earlier one.

Are you sure/how do you know the cops you're passing by have their radar on?

If you are talking about one of the speed warning traffic signs that emit a constant radar signal, I would stop nearby after you have passed with no warning and cycle the V1's power off/on. If this is the case you may need to send it in for service.

as for the cops, i don't always know, but it seems like at least some of the time they should have their radar on (middle of interstate, watching oncoming traffic). and it's not all the time, only sometimes.

and yes, i am talking about those speed monitor signs. my detector is hard wired and goes on and off with the car. i know the speed monitor sign is clocking me because it tells me how fast i'm going!!

thanks for the response. i will call valentine tomorrow. anyone else?

Check to see if P is shown when you turn on the valentine. I'm pretty sure that indicates its been programed which possibly means one of the bands is turned off and (grabbing at straws here) the band that was used in those speed signs may not be enabled.

When the V1 is turned on, I'm pretty sure you want A for all or something close to that. Its in the manual. Be sure to RTFM before calling

thanks for the replies. yeah, it has an A when not in use. I called Valentine and they asked me to just send it back. they said they would take a look at it and determine the best course of action. they even said it might be free. great customer service so far. i am sending it in next week. i will update everyone with my experience.
