So this is in my '93 that isn't driven that much anymore. So I'm not really sure when this happened. Today I found this... Could this be from heat? Do they even repair something like this or is it garbage?
Either sun or time. As Kale said the foam simply breaks down from the heat in the trunk and overall age. If thats a W0, W1, or W3 I would replace it. A W6 and I MIGHT swap the foam for the hell of it. Subs are so cheap you can replace the thing on Ebay for about $70.
replaced the foam, no problem at all. But now I have about as much bass as I had when the foam was dust. Everything is hooked up the way it was previously, but now I'm getting very little bass. Almost like it's not on. Any ideas? Checked all connections and they look fine.

I've replaced the foam rings on a set of speaker (JBL's) as well as bought a pair of speaker (Boston Acoustics) that just had the foam ring replaced. In both cases most of the base range was weak until the foam was "broken in". The instructions that I had for the DIY foam replacement stated that the speakers would need to be played for awhile till they would sound better. These were some house speakers that I was just playing around with. The instructions stated that you should take it easy on the speakers and not play too loud initially. Sorry I don't remember the exact suggested time but I believe I just left them play for 2 or 3 days.
The Boston Acoustics speakers sounded like completely different speakers after a few week - sounded REALLY good. The JBL's sounded better but my son took them off my hand before I really got a chance to see a full break in period.
From my minimal experiance, I now go for other than foam rings for my car speakers because of the harsh evironment they need to live in.
