Default Need Help with Replacing Front Speakers!!!

Hey guys, I currently have the standard system (non-bose) in my 08 vette, one of my 10" woofers blew and i'm thinking of replacing all of the speakers now that i'm gonna have to anyway, My first question will be

Do i replace the 10" woofers on the door for aftermarket 10" woofers and where can i get some that fit, i know the depth in the doors is not much and most 10" woofers i've seen surpass those measurements.

I've also seen post about replacing the 10" woofers with 6.5 coaxials, is this a good idea? i just dont want to loose the bass i get from the 10", i dont know maybe i'm missing something isnt 6.5 a lot smaller than the 10'' , i would think less power also right?

I'm also going to throw in an amp to power the door speakers and maybe a sub in the trunk, please help on suggestions as to what i should do about speaker size and fitment. thanks guys

Each of the stock 10" woofers has an internal amp, the only way to fix your current problem without going completely aftermarket is to just replace the blown speaker with another from GM. You can probably find a takeoff for pretty cheap.

If you are willing to remove the stock woofer setup and add a sub in the trunk, the aftermarket possibilities are endless

The simplest and best "bang for your buck" solution would be a 4 channel amp, ch 1 + 2 going to front components (6.5" on custom plates is popular), ch 3 + 4 bridged to the sub.

I put in a 5 channel amp (with dedicated sub output) since I like the rear speakers being there. My specifics are in my sig.

The first thing you need to do is decide how much $$$ you want to spend. A simple amp/sub setup that sounds great can cost under $500, or you can go nuts and spend thousands. Check out the 'what do you run' sticky thread to see if anything jumps out at you.

I have a pair of stock subs if you're interested.

I replaced them with 6.5 components. You lose some of the low end thump by doing so. But your sound quality goes up. IMO, if you swap the 10" subs for 6.5s you should add at least 1 10" sub in the rear to gain the low end back.

Thanks DOOKEY, i think i'm gonna end up putting an amp and running 2 8" in the back and the 6.5 in the front.

I didnt think the non-bose systems had amps in the woofers in the front doors????? I am the same problem, but was happy with the sound quality, I will have to go to gm to warranty this I guess.

The Delco 8" subs do NOT have amps on-board. They are driven by the main amp, same as the rest of the speakers. But if your speaker is blown you should have it replaced under warranty regardless.
