The wires you need to connect to are both in the main C1 radio plug. The purple wire at A6 needs 12v supplied to it, and the dark blue wire at A7 is the one that gives the button signal to your SWI gizmo.

All of the C6 schematics and plug pinouts can be found here. Print out schem 7/10 for your installer and it should all work out.

He is correct. The SwiJack (I think is the part #) will wire to 12v switched and ground and has 4 signal in wires that wire differently to diff applications. It has perfect easy directions and the blue/yellow wire that your Kenwood radio needs to operate. I recommend taking it elsewhere or trying it yourself. If the installer you had thought that the wires were in the column he must not have ever heard of the advancement of steering wheel interfaces. I started installing custom professionally in 95 and it sure is easier now...

Jumping in on this thread...I have an 06' with factory nav, xm and onstar. Is it possible to add steering wheel controls that are factory? I know obviously, I would need a new steering wheel, but what else would I have to have? Also, any clue what the expense would be?

The steering wheel (possibly just the insert in the front) and the wires going to the radio (probably not there in the OEM '06 harness) are the easy part. The '06 radio may or may not be able to even respond to the new buttons.

Unless you can find someone who's already done it and can give you tips, I'd wouldn't want to even try that mod. Way to many unknowns that can cause major problems along the way.
