Default Quick Question

Ok, so my son & I are FINALLY getting around to installing the system this weekend, and I wanted to be sure (after referring to the FAQ's) that with a new Head unit, and the proper harness that I "cannot" use the blue & white wire from the harness for remote amp turn on, or does that only apply to using the factory head unit?

I'm sure I've asked this question before, but my memory is about as long as my .....

Thanks!

I'm not exactly sure what you think you can't use, so....

The GMAH24 (or whatever) adapter has an output wire that is used as the RAP controlled 'switched' supply to the new HU. Only use that wire on the HU.

The 'remote amp turn on' wire coming out of the new HU (usually blue/white) is used as the trigger wire on your new amps.

If you are installing a steering wheel controls interface you also need to supply 12v to the buttons. The safest way to do that is to just connect it to the constant 12v in the stock harness (it only draws current if you push a button).

This thread is my favorite for complete C6 installs, it covers at least 90% of what you need to do.

swtiched 12 volt is prly easier for the steering wheels controls because u gotta cycle power to program it

Keith,
Glad to see you are "FINALLY" getting around to the install.
Keep us posted.

I had read somewhere that the blue/white remote turn on wire had no power from the harness. This could be an issue if one were using the factory HU, but that's why I was asking...

I seem to remember that someone had to use their power seat 12v to power their remote turn on. I could be mistaken, but I doubt it...

I just want to make sure that with a new HU, and the proper harness that I'm not going to have any issues. Wasn't there something that was funky about getting power to the HU? Was it the remote turn on, or the switched 12v?

I don't have steering wheel controls, nor do I want them, so....

The interface adapter plugs into the main plug that used to go into the stock radio, where it connects to constant 12v and the serial data line. When the other computers 'tell' the interface the radio should be on it supplies a 'switched' power output to the HU. The blue/white wire coming out of the new radio then triggers the amps whenever you have the radio turned on.

Just FYI, any warning chimes or button beeps you've been hearing from the radio speakers will now be played by the interface adapter

The only issue I can think of concerning power supplies is alternator whine, but that's usually only an issue when mixing Bose and aftermarket components. As long as you have an interface adapter that was meant to be used in a C6 you shouldn't have any problems.
