The chimes module is only required IF YOU WANT TO HEAR CHIMES
The SWI-Jack is easy to install if you know what you're doing and know where the wires are. Click here
The installer you talked to isn't giving me a warm fuzzy
You may also want to get a pair of GLI's since many people get a bit of alternator whine when installing aftermarket HU's with the Bose amp. The GLI's should be enough to eliminate it, I also installed a Noise Filter on the power wires since I had it sitting around.
There are forum vendors with everything packaged in one complete kit (C5BearsFan). I bought most of my speakers on ebay, but I went with SonicElectronix.com for the HU.
99% of what you need to know for a DIY install can be found here or here.
What is needed if you want to use the factory xm antenna?!?!
The OEM XM unit is mounted above the drivers side rear wheel (or behind the waterfall in verts), either mount the aftermarket unit there or use an antenna extension cable to get to your new receiver box.

They don't HAVE to be anything, it's just a matter of personal preference.
I thought GLIs were needed when using an external amp. I don't intend to install one. Also, I want to use the system while driving. I think there's a hack for this, but I can't locate it. How's that done? Thanks.
So is there a consensus on which location provides the best XM and GPS reception? I see a lot of people mount the XM antenna and GPS receiver under center vent.

The 24B uses speaker level output of the new HU (I always forget about that), so no GLI's needed.

I believe on Kenwoods all you have to do is connect the wire that is supposed to go to the parking brake wire (pink?) to a ground instead of the parking brake.

The GPS antennas all seem to work just fine mounted in the dash. The Sat radio antennas also work there, but will tend to cut out a bit more the deeper you mount it. For a while I had mine sitting on top of the vent above the radio (with the center speaker still installed), it 'worked', but did cut out more than I liked. I eventually removed the center speaker and fabed up a small metal bracket to put the sirius antenna on. It now works much better, but I suspect that just removing the center speaker (huge magnet that was sitting a few inches directly above antenna in original mount) would have done about the same thing.

ok i looked at my factory XM receiver above the wheel well. and see that it uses the old style dual xm antenna type antenna. is there an adapter that can convert the dual connection to the more recent standard mini xm tuner type?
