Can someone confirm that I have everything I need for installing the Kenwood DNX9140. My car is a 2008 C6 ZO6. Here is what I think I need:

Are you keeping the rest of the system stock or are you adding new amps as well? Bose system or non-Bose?

I have the factory Nav system. Initially, I plan to keep the stock amp and speakers, but later next yeay I'll be changing them out.

 

That looks like a complete list, although I'm not familiar with the interface you listed. I know the Metra GMOS-04 works with the Bose, and the GMOS-01 can be used when you remove the Bose amp and replace it with aftermarket. The Peripheral stuff should do the same.

 

OK, I've decided to replace the factory speakers and amp when I do this. I'm going with Focal 130 VRS speakers and a Kenwood eXcelon XR-4S class D amp. So it looks like I need to add a GMOS-01 to the list and remove the Peripheral GMAH24B. What about the center channel speaker? Also, any adapters needed for using the stock door speaker wires, or should I just pull new wires?

 

OK, here's what I did. The GMOS-04 is recommended for the Corvette, but that's only if you're keeping the stock Bose and OnStar. If you want to replace the head unit and still retain OnStar and door chimes you can use the GMOS-01 (even though Metra doesn't say that on their application guide).

The GMOS-01 will give you the reverse wire & parking brake wire for the navigation, etc... in addition to all the regular connections you need.

However, to hear your OnStar and door chime you'll need to cut 2 wires on the GMOS-01 and send those wires to a speaker (not connected to your new system). This is what I used the center channel speaker for. I clipped the chime/OnStar wires and ran a new speaker wire to the stock center speaker.

The GMOS-01 comes with detailed instructions, but if you're not experienced with this kind of stuff you may still have questions.

I did use the gray wire of the traction control switch for my illumination which allows dimming of the nav screen with the headlights.

I plugged the factory nav antenna (located on top of the AC vents in the dash) into the Kenwood and it works great. However, the SCC1 antenna had spotty reception when hidden in the dash, so I ended up mounting the Sirius antenna just in front of the center channel speaker vent on the front of the dash (the DNX8140 comes with a metal sticky pad to mount the antennas to).

I removed the Bose amp completely since it's not needed, and installed my Sirius tuner in the location where the Bose amp was in the passenger foot well.

I ran all new wires (16 gauge speaker wire) to the speakers and left the stock plugs and wiring intact. I mounted my door speaker crossovers inside the doors in the armrest area (had to remove some styrofoam filler to fit the crossover in there). The door wires are easy to pull, there's a large rubber boot going into the door from the kick panel area.

The XR4S will fit perfectly in the rear storage bins. I grounded my amp to the frame in the rear of the car, accessed by removing a tail light and using an angle drill to drill the ground inside the rear fascia.

Since you're replacing the amp & speakers, you need the GMAH24 (without the B) and the GMAHCM. Skip the GMOS, as they are only one step above POS.

Run new wires for the speakers.

 

OK, thanks for all the help. I ordered all the parts from Sonic Electronix. I ended up going with the Kenwood eXcelon XR-S17P speakers. I'm taking a chance buying the DNX9140 from a non authorixed dealer, but I'll keep my fingers crossed that the first time I turn it on it works.

No. I just needed good speakers and they got some good reviews from people who have them. Also, I now have a complete Kenwood system - Nav/reciever, amp and speakers. The Focal 130 VRS's were on backorder.

 

OK, change 2. I've deleted the Kenwood speakers from my order and replaced them with the last set of Focal 165KF's that Sonic had.

But on to another question. Should I use the Xover that comes with the speakers, giving me 2 spare amp channels, or use all 4 channels of the amp to drive the speakers in a bi-amp'd mode. If I bi-amp, there will be no power for the center channel or the rears. I'm not worried about the rears and can do without them, but do I need the center channel for anything? If so I need another amp channel which I would rather not get.

Had mine installed with the GMOS 04 and constantly get static on start and through the horn when sounding the horn. It seems like some resistance building up which eventually goes away. My installer then used a Soundgate and I still have this static. It's very annoying and making think of adding an external amp to bypass the OEM. Any ideas or thoughts. Please.

I thought the same but they have installed many of these units. Could my JL Sub with 250/1 amp be a probable cause? We are using the sub-out rca for this.

 

Many people have had static issues after installing new HU's with the OEM amps. A pair of Ground Loop Isolators at the RCA output of the HU usually makes it go away.
