I'm looking for "High end" Amps/Speakers to finish the installation on my '96. I currently have a Sony CDX-C90 head unit and a Sony XDP-4000X Digital Processor is on the way. I'm leaning toward Boston Acoustics Pro Series speakers. Amps?...who knows? Any thoughts or suggestions? Anyone here with a similar set-up?

How much do you want to spend? Are you going to have subwoofers?
I really don't have a $ value in mind, I don't mind paying the price for good equipment. Yes, I do plan on having subwoofers. My current set-up in my daily driver ('97 S-10 Blazer) I have a Sony head unit and Eq along with Infinty Kappa speakers, 5 1/4" in the front and rear doors and 4x6 plates in the dash along with 6" Bazooka subs and Sony Amps. Although it provides decent quality sound, I'd prefer a somewhat better set-up for the Vette...I'm NOT looking to get into IASCA competitions if you catch my drift.
That's a nice head unit, by the way. I have its predecessor, the CDX-910, in my other car. Do you have any pics of it installed in your Vette? I'm worried that it might be too deep to fit flush.
Re: Looking for "High end" Amps/Speakers... (LOUDSYSTEM)
The Brax amps are very good. A/D/S and Memphis also makes some good amps.
The best sounding separates I've heard in vettes are http://www.morelusa.com Morel and http://www.rainbow-car-audio.com/home/ Rainbow. They both have great sounding systems, with tweeters that are a little more "mellow" and full sounding. I find Focals to be a little shrill and fatiguing when playing in a car such as ours with quite a bit of glass surface.

I'd vote for the focal speakers and ads amps for the seperates. A good reasonably priced sub seams to be the image dynamics imax. Look to a JL audio w7 for the next step. Other seperates to look at are Boston Acoustic Pro, A/d/s, and Mb Quart QSD and QM.

Do you prefer the Focal over your Boston Acoustic Pro's?
Re: Looking for "High end" Amps/Speakers... (Hardcorvette)
Yeah, I should have mentioned.. stay away from the Focals unless you like your music very crisp. The tweeters are razor-edge sharp! If you want "softer" tweeters look for a soft dome component set... One of the best sets i've heard for having a soft tweeter is the Crystal Audio components.. HD-642DT -$609 with silk tweeter. http://thezeb.com/caraudio/cdtaudio.html

I'm waiting to get all of the components together before I start the install. The deal on the XDP-4000X fell through, I ended up getting the Sony XDP-210EQ instead. I hope to have Amp and Speakers within the next few weeks.

Hey Mark:
What model X-tant do you have? I've heard they are great. How many channels ... how many watts, etc. Are you running front and rear speakers? Do you have any power going to a sub?
Re: Looking for "High end" Amps/Speakers... (MrVegas)
Personally, I like the sound of the focals myself. Everyone likes a different set of speakers. The best high end are focal polykevlar or utopia, MB quart QSD or QM, Boston Pro series, or A/D/S. They all sound great, and different. Go to a sterio shop that has most or all of these brands and sample them to determine what sounds best to you. That's what you want. For me, its a toss up between focal utopia and A/D/S.
Re: Looking for "High end" Amps/Speakers... (92TripleBlack)
Sony makes decent decks but that's about it. Mostly makers of head units make junk when it comes to the rest of the equipment just like with home stuff. How many people would consider buying a sony home dvd player would also buy Sony speakers for their home sterio? They just do it as filler because people will buy it and they don't know any better. Many times the stuff isn't even built by them. These makers include: Sony, Pioneer, Clarion, JVC, Kenwood, Alpine, etc. The opposite is sometimes also true. For example, Rockford fosgate makes good amps but they are not known for their speakers, subs or head units. Hope this helps.

MrVegas-
I have the X-tant 604x in my system. Its a little on the pricey side but it is also a fantastic sounding and loud amp. Just for fun I once took a sound pressure meter in it to see how high I could go. I was able to read 125dbs and it was CLEAN.
The 604 is a four channel (Hence the 60"4") I forget what the wattage is but it was something like 75 or 100 per channel. I do know that i have 2 channels bridge together to power the sub and the other 2 powering the mids and highs.
This amp along with the Boston Pro LF series speakers make a great combination.
I have a break down and a few picts in my sig your interested. Just click on the lic in my sig.

Kenwood eXcelon and Eclipse also make very good amps/subs/speakers. I have a 12" Eclipse aluminum sub, with an eXcelon 401M amp (1,200 watts peak). It can shake the whole car if you turn the amp up all the way up, but I don't.
