I just had this adapter installed and it comes with 2 screw type adjustments for gain control for our subwoofers.
My question is I have bass coming through my doors, but I do notice the rear speakers are quite a bit louder could this be from my installer not adjusting these gains?
Possibly. I'd double-check the fader & any other adjustments that are on your new headunit (I'm assuming you purchased an aftermarket if you have the Metra adapter). I'm actually awaiting the arrival of an Alpine HU and this adapter so I'm curious to see how yours turns out. I'll let you know how mine works out once I get it in on Monday
I have to call the shop that I had it installed at and see if the installer adjusted the gains at all. I did go to an aftermarket Pioneer DEH-P6100BT HU, and after checking the fader, and balance options find they are at 0 meaning untouched which I think is the way to leave them unless your fine tuning to your liking..
I called Metra the manufacturer and asked them if the gains control the volume of each speaker and they said yes...So after you do your install, and after I get back from the shop we can compare notes..
I however now am not to impressed with the lack of bass output from the door woofers, so hopefully that can change when I hear from you and what you find or find out the installer never listened to the system prior to fully installing it in the car to see if it sounded right...
That would of course be a tip I would give to anybody going with an aftermarket HU..Listen to your setup before leaving the adapter gains in their stock positions to see if your happy with the sound..

Hey sorry I didn't respond to you, must have lost the thread subscription. I installed everything, albeit quickly, and haven't really been pleased with the sound due to lack of bass as well. I then remembered today something about having to connect a amp-on wire (blue & white) to the Metra adapter box to give it power. Apparently all it does is pass the correct signals to from the headunit to the speakers but not supply the actual power. Check this thread, it has some good info on what to do including a picture of the place you need to tap. Obviously Metra needs to rework their install instructions lol I'm going to mess with it tonight when I get home and post up what I find!
The blue/white wire coming out of the new radio is the 'external amp' trigger. The solid blue wire is the 'antenna' trigger. They should NOT be connected to the same place.
To get the door subs working with an aftermarket radio in a C5 you have to somehow get the blue/white wire from the new radio connected to the DARK GREEN wire at pin #8 of the original black C1 plug.
If your AM/FM reception is seriously bad, there is a way to use the blue wire to turn on the OEM antenna amp, but there have been mixed results, and it's not quite plug-n-play. This thread gives you the basics on that.
I think I had the PAC OEM-VET1, and when I was done installing, I had no front subs. I think Greg had told me to connect the blue wire from the PAC to the blue/white amp lead from the HU because the PAC was labeled wrong. So in essence I connected both the blue and blue/white from the PAC to the HU to get subs to come on.
Just finished fixing the issue. I simply took the blue/white wire from the new headunit, and spliced/tapped into the existing brown wire at Pin #8 off the original black plug. Bingo, woofers work!
Since he said it was working, I assumed it was a typo or he's just color blind
The dark green wire at pin 8 of the black C1 plug is what you're looking for. The "amp turn on" wire from the new HU needs to be connected there.
Man now I'm going nuts thinking about this, I'm gonna double-check which color this wire is now I know everything is working and I double-checked it when I tapped the wire, so maybe I just typed the wrong color lol. I need to route a USB cable anyway so I'll post up after that's done & verified.
