Default 1969 Corvette C3 Stereo System

Initially I was investigating a windshield pillar trim panel for speakers for my 69 C3 Corvette (like my 2008 Suburban), but then I came across some threads on this forum that blew me away on the entire systems. I saw one specifically about Reus Audio and realized they have a southwest location here in Houston too !

First - yes - I want my cake and eat it too.

2nd - I am in final stages of frame off (read no cash) and will need to wait a bit for the full blown stereo, but was hoping to plan. Initially with the stereo unit itself in the center cluster and especially wiring since the entire interior is out.

3rd - My order of importance: Paint Body, Dependable Strong Motor w/side exhausts (read loud), Fire Exinguisher, and better than average tunes... no overheating, then A/C. hmmm maybe I should move A/C up on the totem pole.

I want a decent system, but I am not looking for others to enjoy my music - just me and my passenger. You know - not the boom box from hell. My exhaust will do that. I am not looking for hi-tech graphics as I want the unit to go with my interior. I also want to be able to access the rear storage tray for the rear window and put my T-tops in the rear area as well. There are some good ideas on the C3 forum on this and I would really like to get the 'direction' and electrical wiring settled.

I have made a call to Reus and am hoping to do some of the work myself, but understand you have to have coordination on a decent system. I know the bare basics (late 70's) of stereos, but believe the following items are of value: 4 ohm, good kick panel speakers, tweets in doors and pillars, avoiding 4x6 speakers in dash (available 1970 and later)......

I appreciate any input and if there are existing threads I have missed - please let me know.

I think you will get better answers more tailored to your C3 over in C3 general, most guys here are c5/c6 guys. I have done a few systems in C3's but you prly wont get much help from this section. Crappy answer I know

I guess you have to decide if you are willing to cut the dash or get a repo piece already cut to put a standard size headunit in. Plan on running an amp if you want to be able to hear it over ur side pipes. Were you trying to keep everything oem looking?

I am not looking to keep OEM, but prefer not to do a serious mod. I have cut my center bezel to accommodate a DIN - thats no biggie and I am open to a different windshield pillars as long as they are not too obnoxious.

And I have searched the C3 - but I feel the C5/C6 ers might have good info to offer.
I am thinkning that with the technology out there today and a little thought - you could do wonders (for example the tweets mounted in almost stocvk looking windshield pillars)

i have never put tweeters in the windshield pillars in a c3 but part of what u may run into is there isnt enough depth so you will have to build the pillars out

i know some year c3s had dash speakers, what about putting the tweets there where the oem dash speakers were if an option

i know many ppl do 6.5s in the kickpanes pretty easily

were u going to do a small sub in the back or just 2 pairs of speakers

I am open to the dash speakers (I put a 70 dash in mine to have them)... do 6.5's fit - wow.... I thought 2" x 5" ??? were stock? Gee - I forget.

As for the sub in the rear - I see how my brother's home stereo rocks with a subwoofer - as well as my home computer system - what a difference.
