I will be putting some amps in my vert's trunk pretty soon. When I put the top down yesterday I noticed it laid right where I wanted to put my amps. I want them directly behind the seats because I want to be able to get a suitcase in the trunk on weekends. If I get a couple beefy amps running back there will they melt the convertible top when I'm cruising? Help?
I've seen many vert installs with the amps in that location, and I've never seen a problem. I certainly don't think an amp will get hot enough to "burn" the top. Go for it.
Another thought is what about placing the amp in the center storage compartment? I just finished my install about a month ago and was able to fit (2) JL 10W6's and a Phoenix Gold amp in that compartment, now when you look at the trunk area it looks completely factory but beneath the cover there is PLENTY of bass! But if you want to place the amp or amps where the top folds down to you should have about a inch or two of clearance from the top, and the way the top folds down it would be the glass first on the amps - so either way you wouldn't have a problem. Let me know if you have any other questions that I can help you with, since I spent plenty of time trying to fit my system in different areas.
Re: C5 vert and amp placement in trunk? (One Love)
Which specific PG amp was it? Was it multi-channel? Is it the only amp you have powering all speakers? I want to have lots (not necessarily TONS) of power to front speakers and subs. Many people advocate separate amps, but I would love to be able to get all my power from one *awesome* amp if possible.
What size are the 2 10W6's? Do you have any pictures?
I was happy with my interiors and I just wanted more bass so I just added the subs and the one amp. The amp is a Phoenix Gold ZX500 which pushes out 600x1 @ 4ohms. The subs are (2) JL 10" subs wired down to a 1.5 ohm load, so actually I'm probally pushing around 1000 watts to the subs. My suggestion is that if your redoining your interiors and adding subs and using more than one amp, I would just build a amp rack where the top folds down to - I wouldn't be concerned at all with the amps burnig the top. Also try to find a amp that has a built in fan so it can keep the temperature down even more. Sorry no pics :(
