instructions stated for NON BOSE system cut the rca's off and wire directly to speaker wires on harness (color for color)...I did, no sound. Now i'm kinda thinking maybe I shouldn't have because the new unit has RCA outs for each speaker... do I need to go buy new RCA plugs and rewire them back on?
the rca's are for low level output for bose so they aren't needed.... I called PAC and they said there might not be voltage coming from the B3 blue wire as this triggers the car's amp or something. nice...my car is ripped apart, have to wait another 4 or 5 days for a new harness?
i plugged the factory radio back in and everything works fine, it has to be this harness.
According to my schematics, even the non-bose radios have an external amp in C6.
In order to just make the new radio work with your oem amp all you have to connect is 4 wires and the 4 rca plugs. Red, yellow, & black all go from the HU to the same colors on the GMCO. Blue/white from the HU connects to blue at pin B3 of the GMCO. Leave the other GMCO wires disconnected. The rca plugs coming out of the HU need to plug into the rca plugs on the GMCO.
That will get you working
The dimmer wire (orange/white?) from the new HU can then be connected to the gray wire at the TC/AH button if you like.
he had to wire in 3 relays, not sure why... said the new stereo wasn't that loud and the relays made it louder idk.
used a new harness, a soundgate V4. was $109....$35 to install it all.
he said there was an internal amp somewhere, and any instructions that say non bose this/non bose that are garbage because they all have an internal amp, wish I knew....probably could have just used the RCA's off the PAC unit and it would have been fine but it stated to cut them off and wire them directly for non bose systems...MY BAD. It's installed and works fine.
true... I want the system to be louder, it's about 80% of what the stock head unit did but he said if I wanted to use an amp I would have to put in new speakers, but I could add bass without doing that...
You dont have to cut the RCA plugs, non Bose Corvettes still have an amp. Would be nice if they mentioned which RCA plug goes where though, I'm sure the colors are standard but I'm no stereo installer.
You also need the blue amp turn on wire from the radio to the blue wire on the PAC, its not even mentioned in the instructions. Nor is the orange or orange/white.
The pioneer HU I put in only has a 2.2V output and it isnt as loud as the stocker, volume needs to be in the 30s to really hear it and it stops at 62. Luckily on all modes except FM I can boost the output some and it makes it livable, just have to be careful when listening to FM switching to something else.
