Default Effective C5 Speaker-Only Upgrade?

Just bought an 01 Vert. Not interested in a major sound system upgrade (Soooo many other things to spend $ on!). Still, has anyone found after-market speakers that fit, work with the stock HU, and improve the sound without adding amps and/or a new head unit? If so, please let me know make/model#/source. THANKS!

The front twiddlers are 3.5", many have been very happy with Polk db351 or Boston Acoustic S35. In verts the rears are 5.25", I have these in my C6 and am very pleased with them.

That would give you a good improvement for under $100 total

In my 2004 C5 Coupe, I added a 10" sub in a stealthbox. Used a connector that plugged into back of the stock Bose H/U to get the line-outs for the amp. The whole setup cost maybe $400 and was pretty easy to install. Now I can keep the bass level on the radio at a medium level, which puts less strain on the stock speakers and allows them to sound pretty good.

Great idea! Thanks!
I wonder if the HU connector you used would work on my HU. Where did you get it?

Nicely done installation too!

Yeah man, you can find the connector easily. There are quite a few vendors here that sell them. Just tell them what you have and that you are going to add a subwoofer. I would assume it's the exact same connector that I bought, but I hesitate to tell you that for certain, as I'm just not sure.

You already have the nice spot in the trunk for the sub and you can easily mount an amp back there. Then you can retain the stock speakers and let the new sub drive all the bass.

Good luck!
