Default A few wiring questions[C6]

Hey guys

I'm going to be installing an Avic D3 I bought off the forums here in a few days into my 2005 1sb (bose/onstar) and I have a few questions.

First and foremost: Is the VSS wire really necessary for navigation to work properly? I don't live in an area with tunnels or anything, but if this wire really aids in the nav functionality I will certainly tap it.

Also, since I haven't had anything apart yet, I was wondering what size wire tap I need to get to tap into (possibly) the VSS wire, but definitely the illumination wire on either the hazard or traction control switches (is the wire grey in an '05?), Radio shack offers one for 14-18 and another for 22-18.

Thank you!

The VSS does make the nav more accurate as far as how fast your cursor moves on the screen so if you are gauging exits by that then you might want to take the time to tap into the wire. I did it on my truck and the vette is easy, just tap off the instrument cluster as it's easy to get to.

Get the 18-22 taps, those will work just fine for what you want to do. Only power wires to heaters and motors are going to 16g or bigger.

Thank you for your reply. I'll probably do the VSS wire since it's so easy to get to on the Bose harness. I truly appreciate it.
