Looking to add a sub to my C6... I want a good SQ sub and a good box....who do you guys like in these areas ? I'm thinking just 1- 10" sub... I've used ARC before and liked them.... I hear Diamond and ID makes good SQ subs... I'm looking at $120-200 range. So what models should I be looking at and which box sounds the best ? Like I posted in another members post I found Diamond audio D6 10 and M3 10 subs used for a good deal, anyone heard them before ?
The best? Porbably Morel Ultimo. But they're expensive.
If you're willing to spend a bit more, I heard the Boston Accoustics G5 subs are very good.
They're discontinued, so it won't be easy to find.
The place I bought my ARC from in L.A. sold Morel... they had a full set up in a FX45 infinity...it sounded like a concert in the other room when it was playing..... I can't afford to spent $1000-1500 on a set of speakers.
I wonder what happen to LA sounds or whatever thier name was, last time there they were gone from thier last location.
install, location, tuning are the most important part. After that, just buy a quality sub. I've heard the same sub (IDMAX) sound like a POS rockford fosgate, and sound like a completely transparent but hard hitting wonder-sub.
The Morel Ultimo is supposed to be a great sub, but needs a ton of power (~1000w RMS at 2 or 4 ohms), which would require a huge amplifier that would pull a lot of current and cost a pretty penny. It is also not going to be as loud as many of the other subs out there, but more "transparent"
I just bought one of these, CDT Audio QES-1020, and have heard nothing but good things about it. Optimized for performance in a 0.6 cu. ft. sealed box, which is exactly the size of the stealthbox type fiberglass enclosures for the C6. Woofersetc.com is selling the old orange version for $350 shipped. I found another dealer that is selling the new black version for the same price. Retail is $500. Let me know if you want the info.
Well, there really is no correct answer to "the best" anything in audio.
Proper enclosure, tuning, and placement are more far more important factors in the performance of the sub, than the sub itself. (As wise Kale mentioned)
I would figure out your enclosure location and available air space first, then the amount of power you will have available, and at what ohm load. then choose your sub based upon those parameters. The overall performance outcome will far outweigh the reverse approach.
You can take that Morel Ultimo sub, throw 500w on it in the wrong box, and a 7" ED sub with the proper power, enclosure, and tuning will outperform it.
If you are going single sub, and like that nice, lowish note that always seems to sound good in cars (typically 38hz - 45hz) get as big of a cone as you can for the airspace you have available (probably a 12" like an IDQ), get your RMS power in line with the recommendation for the sub, and you should be gtg.
I understand power and tuning are important. Some of you guys that really know this stuff, explain more about the enclosure and placement. I'm about to embark on the final phase of my install and that is the sub. I want to build some custom boxes to tuck in the back corners and place a couple 10s back there. What do I need to know to do this to get the best SQ?
Not trying to hijack the thread but this seems germaine to the topic at hand.

It's pretty hard to screw up a sealed box unless it's not sealed properly. Other than that, you just have to make sure it's the right size internally. The "stealthbox" type enclosures that go in the corners where the storage compartments are located are usually around 0.6 cubic feet. There are a decent number of subs that are optimized for that size box that will work. Just make sure the mounting depth isn't too deep.
