Default Sound damping installation. Please help.

I am looking for tips on installing damping material from Cascade Audio. I bought a shop pack of VB-2 for the front/doors and 2 large sheets of VB-2HD for the hatch. I have never put on any of this before so any help that you can give me would be great.

Thanks in advance.

I replied to your IM, Using a hair dryer is the real trick. Pretty easy once you get the hang of it. I started by using 2 long narrow sheets to cover the door, starting with the bottom first.

i would suggest to go buy a heat gun rather than a blow drier just for the fact that the blow-drier will cut out after several minutes. Most people like to use a roller to contour the sheet to the contours of the door, but my shop has found that the round end of the handle of a screwdriver works best. Sometimes the edge of the roller will make a small rip in the damping, not a big deal, but I am kind of knit-picky (Is that a word? ) when it comes to certain things.

I guess that would be the difference between having it done by a professional (and paying for it) and someone who does it themselves. The blow dryer I used never did cut off.

I'm doing the same project soon after talking to the guy that won #1 in the Hooter's Corvette show in Spring, TX this weekend. He used Dynamat, but it seems many people say Cascade is the way to go. CarToys is going to let me use their decibel meter to measure before and after.

Let me know what you find when trying to do this; are you going to start this weekend? Where did you buy the Cascade from?

btw, those wheels make yours the best looking Pewter Coupe I've ever seen!

I just had a long discussion with Cascade Audio at 541-389-6821. I was way off in what I was about to purchase, but that's probably because I have different needs than you. I have a stock stereo in my 2001 ZO6. My primary concern is road noise; there's WAY too much of it. Cascade suggested that I purchase their BARRIER product instead of the DAMPER products you discuss below.

I was told to cover as close to 100% of the floor, trunk, and firewall area with barrier. I have to pull out basically the whole interior. It was suggested that I purchase their VB-3 product, as described at http://www.cascadeaudio.com/prod/vb3.html, in order to cover the curved areas. The VB-4 product is cheaper, but wants to lie flat. Therefore, I'll purchase it to use on the flat areas (probably 70% of the area).

It was suggested I purchase 2 VB-4.5 (half the size of VB-4) and 1 VB-3.5 (half the size of VB-3). At SoundDomain.com, this totals $239.85 +shipping. Ouch, not too cheap! But if I can reduce the noise significantly, it's worth it.

mrkln (7:28 AM 3/13/2002): I am actually thinking of doing more of the car in VB-2HD. If you want, I can sell mine to you for what I got it for which is cheaper than anywhere else I can almost guarentee. $45 for the 13.9 ft^2 sheet.

mrkln (7:29 AM 3/13/2002): I will have to calculate how much I need to keep. I am thinking of doing the floorpan and hatch in VB-2HD and the doors in VB-2. What do you think?
