This may seem like a dumb question but I did a search and couldn't find the answer. I've got a 2002 Z06 currently running a pioneer h/u hooked up to the stock blose speakers. I have them wired through the pac-oem interface. I simply cannot stand the crappy stock sound anymore but can't really afford new speakers all around. Will it be possible to replace the front speakers with aftermarket components while still keeping the stock bose rears?
there is nothing bose about the rear speakers, but yes you can change the front speakers and nothing else since u already have changed the headunit
Ohh ok, had no idea the rears weren't bose. Thanks man that answers my question perfectly. Do you reccomend any components for the front for between $80-$120. I'm strongly considering the alpine Spr17s 6.5 inch type R, which I can get for around $130. I'd imagine these would be a huge improvement over stock.
I can handle a slight decrease in bass, I've heard these alpines deliver a pretty strong low end punch anyways. Where can I find some custom mounting plates to fit them in the front doors?
how soon do you need them, i am local and can make a set for you, or recommend some others. What is ur budget I might know of some better speakers. with components you deff will need an amp to drive them or they will be extermely inefficient. check some of the threads i have started from a number of installs may give u some ideas

hmm well if I need an amp I may have to wait a while to save up some more $$. Like I said my budget is limited, those alpines for $130 is about the most I can spend on speakers. I may wait a month or two so I can get an amp at the same time and maybe a sub.

Probably a smart move. My advice it to listen and let Greg (Pentavolvo) help you. He is a great guy, a world of knowledge, and you will be glad you did. Mark
Gotta say, the Bose system my C-5 had was really crappy. Found a very reasonable upgrade was adding small dome tweeters behind all four speaker grills. I used small 8 ohm Audax 1/2" dome's w/5uf capacitor's, giving a slow first order 5khz crossover to pick up some upper midrange. The system had treble for the first time. Think Audax quit making these, but Parts Express should be able to fix you up with something similar.
you deff are gonna wanna go with an amp. what is ur budget for the whole project
Would like to spend less than $200 max. Which I know won't give me many options, but I'm not looking for a spectacular audio system, just something that will give me better sound than stock. I'm pretty much at my budget now with just the speakers, mounting plate, wires, etc. I've already spent well over $600 on the double din nav install, so not looking to spend much more.
