Hello i need some advise please.
Currently all my amps are bad and my cd player on my deck is dead in my 1990. I sure would like to keep the factory look . The best i have been able to do for quotes is get the radio restored for $150.00 plus for $175.00 have the radio converted over with a new amp /modual ( so it now has its own amp built in) and an additional $100.00 to switch fom a two internal circut board to a one circut board ( supposedly the 1990 radio two cicuit board system is no good. Now all i would need is four unpowerd spekers. This would keep the factory look and with new better speakers the sound would be much better. I am having a real hard time spending that kind of money on a radio. Does anyone have any other ideas ? Does anyone no of any aftermarket radios that would look like it belongs in the dash?
Thanks for any and all imput.

Re: TOTALY SHOT BOSE SYSTEM (bdtenore)
Lets see if I have this straight. You want to take a nonworking system, repair it for $425 + $???? for speakers just to keep a total stock look? Maybe I'm too cheap, but why not just replace it all?
When I finish my replacement of the Bose the speaker grills will be the same, the speakers behind them are all new. The only thing that looks out of place is the headunit. If it was black it would go better in the interior.
I'm sure you can find a better head unit in a color that makes it look like it goes in the interior. There are a few 1.5 DIN units out there for replacing GM & Chrysler radios.
Get it out of there. The only reason any sane person would want to put a bose crap back in a car and spend actual money doing it is that they are restoring the car for shows and they don't listen to it. It was designed 20 years ago if you have the 90. The technology is extremely primative. If you want the look, I like my Nak. It has orange lit buttons and is black and very understated. Nak is a bit long in the coin though. You can go to a shop and check out many different decks. What I recommend to most is a pioneer. It is great for the price and very reliable. Sounds good. You can get one with MP3, cd, cdrw, etc. for about $200, and two pairs of speakers that fit in the stock locations for another $250 and make it sound better than the systems that come in a Z06.
OK thanks, so i need to rip it all out. What do i need to get to use the same harness that is in the car? Can i use the harness wires that are in the plugs at the speakers or do i have to run new speaker wire? Will there be any computer uproar caused by this extraction.
THANKS.

Re: TOTALY SHOT BOSE SYSTEM (bdtenore)
Don't know the answer for the 90, but here is what I found out on my 88:
Get a good adapter harness, I got mine from a stereo installation shop
Get a faceplate adapter that fits your interior and looks good
Run new wires for the speakers. In my 88 the factory wiring uses a "common" ground wire for the speaker harness.
Get a system and speakers that you like. I went cheap with no-name brands for the speakers and although they are rated to carry more than my head units max power I don't think I'd try to drive them at 1/2 their rated power. Right now I have the front outputs wired to the rear speakers and it sounds OK, but I can't wait to install the real front speakers this weekend.
I got a RocfordFosgate RFX9400 head unit, lots of folks like the pioneer. Aiwa and Sony have OK units as well.
Visit this site. This is a BARGAIN and a GREAT SET. Then go to your nearest Circuit City and tell the boys, you need the harness ($14.95) for this radio. While you're there pick out the speakers and your set. http://www.carstereoexpo.com/pioneer2.html
