Default Kenwood Deck doesn't hold Memory

I was curious it anyone could help... I have a new Kenwood (kdc-MP242) deck. Its doesn't hold memory if i try to adjust the settings for my sub. I have switched between the orange and yellow power wires in the footwell and this is what happens. When i had it on Yellow and it wouldn't remember any settings and would go to "standby" mode instead of picking up where it left off, i moved to to Orange and everything works great now. but since the orange is tied into the Cig lighter, i have to turn the stereo off when i leave, i can also turn it on at any given point without the keys.

can't find anything in the manual about it so i don't know what to try.....

Please don't take this the wrong way, but it sounds like you should have someone familiar with installing helping you right now (to prevent something bad from happenning). But if you really want to do it yourself...

There should be a red and a yellow wire on the Kenwood's harness.

The red wire on the Kenwood harness should connect to a switched power source in the car - something that turns on and off with the ignition. (I'm guessing that's the Yellow wire in your car from your description, but you need to determine if that's an ignition switched power source). This is the wire the Kenwood draws it's primary power from, and when the ignition is switched off, the Kenwood will automatically switch off.

The yellow wire on the Kenwood harness should be connnected to a constant 12 v source (battery) - one that doesn't get interrupted when the car gets switched off. From your description, that could be the orange wire in the car. This supplies power to the memory of the Kenwood, so when the car is switched off, it draws just enough power to retain the memory.

This information should be on page 16 of your manual, but if it's not, here's a link to the manual from Kenwood online:

Hope this helps!

Connect the yellow wire from the HU harness to the orange wire in the footwell (battery).

Connect the red wire from the HU harness to the yellow wire in the footwell (switched).

Connect the black wire from the HU harness to the black wire in the footwell (ground).
