I am about to start the install of my DD Z110.I have the HU and Dennis has shipped my new DD bezel so I'll be starting this weekend. I know I read somewhere here on the forum the type of drill bits to use when drilling out the hardened rivets. I tried to do a search and could not find it. I am about to start the install and would like to get everything I need before-hand. I know some people just saw the bracket off but I want to keep it if possible just in case I ever want to revert back to stock. I am keeping the ashtray so do I drill all the rivets out and remove the bracket or do I just drill 2 and flip the bracket? If so which 2, front or rear?
I used a new 1/4" standard home depot version titanium drill bit. I used it in a right angle pneumatic drill I bought at Harbor Freight for under $20. This set up and only the one drill bit drilled out all the rivets in both brackets in under 10 minutes total.
I removed both the radio and HVAC brackets as my DD bezel eliminated the ashtray so both the HU and HVAC controls were relocated. I'm not sure if you have to move the HVAC bracket if you are keeping your ashtray, I don't think you do.
I turned the radio bracket upside down and remounted it for HU support as others have done. Since you are keeping your HVAC controls where they are I believe you will not need to do this as from what I have read your HU will rest on top of the control piece. If you do remount the bracket, you need to keep the single long slot in the bracket facing you as seen in this photo or the 4 mounting holes will not line up.
OK I have a right angle drill and titanium bits so that much is good. I agree that I don't think I need to remove the HVAC bracket. Thanks for that info. Anyone know what to do with the radio bracket for a double D with ashtray install. Do I remove it all together or flip it down? If I flip it down which 2 rivets do I drill out?

How much do you move the HVAC control down for the non-ashtray bezel?

I moved mine down about 7/8". You also need to shim out the bottom of the HVAC unit up to 1/4" for a proper fit with the bezel opening. I used some nylon bushings I purchased at a local ACE Hardware and they fit perfectly.
