Questions about iPhone/Aux connecting
Hey there! I've recently been looking for solutions on how to hook my iPhone 3GS up to play on my radio. I've been reading up on here, and went to a local car audio place in my area.
I had a few questions that I'd appreciate if I could get some people's feedback on.
First of all, I was curious what kind of connector people were using. Looking around, the two major ones I've found have been:
Pac Audio's ISGM73
http://www.pac-audio.com/productDeta...&CategoryID=36
and
Peripheral PXDP PXHGM4
http://www.doubledmods.com/Periphera...ter-ipodc5.htm
What are people's thoughts on these? Will they work for the iPhone 3GS? Do they charge well? Is one better than the other? Are there other options?
Second, these seem to be solutions specifically for iPhone/iPod devices. Are there any options for generalized AUX devices (that can hook up to other audio players or laptops), with a converter for iPhones?
I found this which seems similar, although I don't know if it works for iPhone 3GS
http://www.pac-audio.com/productDeta...&CategoryID=36
Is there a reason I wouldn't want to go that route + a docking converter for the iPhone, rather than a specific iPod/iPhone connector?
Thanks for any advice!

wow.... did you at least get an PM's from anyone?well, I am considering the same thing.... but I thought I read somewhere that to be able to run iPOD’s & iPhones (easily) from the C5 stock radio the radio has to be one that has the CD Changer option in it… it doesn’t have to actually have the changer, but at least the option...sooo, I had my VIN checked and it told me that I have the plain Jane stock radio without CD Changer option built into it.... so the radio would need to be replaced with a new non-stock one or the stock radio hacked etc and I don’t wanna do that really.
Since finding that out, I have considered replacing the current stock radio with another stock radio that has the CD Changer option built into it though... that way the iPOD/IPhone adapters would work quite easily.... but then the cost of the replacement radio plus the adapter plus install was sounding pretty expensive… I’m kinda bummed about it all…
anyone else out there?

You do not need to change radios. You either have the cd changer and need the pxdp.pxhgm2 option or you dont have the cd changer and need the pxdp/pxhgm4 options
all laid out here for you.
I ahve sold hundreds of these and ther eis plenty of info on searching the subject.
will work just fine with the 3g phone as well as the new iphone 4
IPOD and Zune
Installation kits
We have both versions for you to select from
$89.99 shipped

Delivers CD quality sound directly into the factory sound system via the CD changer port and eliminates the use of noisy RF modulators.
The factory radio enables track selection and FFWD / RRWD just like using a CD changer.
Keeps the batteries in the iPod charged and ready for on the go use.
Easy Operation - controls iPod through factory radio and steering wheel
Compatible with all iPods with bottom dock connector including iPhone/Touch.
The PXDP and PXHGM2 combo will allow you to plug into the cd changer harness and run the cable to the center console.
order here PXHGM2
The PXDP and PXHGM4 option will allow you to pull radio bezel, remove head unit and simply plug in the new harness. Run cable to desired location, reinstall head unit and bezel and your done.
order here PXHGM4

Add one of these to your factory stereo!
This option works the same as the Ipod version but we replace the iPods pxdp with a pxdx piece to allow you to use your Zune or MP3 player in your 97-04 C5 Corvette.
This option if for those who have a factory cd changer and will connect to the cd chanegr harness. Simple 5 minute plug n play install.
This option works the same as the Ipod version as well but this time we replace the iPods pxdp with a pxdx piece to allow you to use your Zune or MP3 player.
This option if for those who DO NOT have a factory cd changer and will connect to the back of your factory radio. Removal of bezel and head unit required in this install. Still pug n play as well.

Edit: FWW I have since verified that it works with Pandora and the Sirius Radio app as well.

Wow, I sure hope I’ve been misinformed and this is going to turn out that I can do this… it’s just that from what I have been told and read a very-very little on (and maybe misunderstanding it all) that my stock radio doesn’t have the cd changer option on the back…. and even reading the description on the web site for the Peripheral PXDP PXHGM4 Chevrolet Corvette 97-04 iPod Adapter:
http://www.doubledmods.com/Periphera...ter-ipodc5.htm
It says… “Delivers CD quality sound directly into the factory sound system via the CD changer port….”
I realize that your site says the following but remember, my confusion is that I don’t believe I have the necessary CD Changer port to connect the PXHGM4 too…and to drop just shy of a $100 on a ‘chance’ is where I get hung up, sorry
“This option if for those who DO NOT have a factory cd changer and will connect to the back of your factory radio”
Please help me to understand… what does it connect to if I don't have the CD Changer port? heck, I just drive the car and electronics are a foreign language to me

You should be just fine Mark. WHat it means is you dont have the cd changer option in the back fo the car. MEaning the changer is not there. If you had the changer in the back center section, the PXHGM2 harness is what you could have used to connect the PXDP. EVEN if you had the changer in the back you would not be able to use it and the PXDP.
All Z06's dont have this option of a cd changer as well.
You will need the PXDP and PXHGM4 option.
This is a 100% gaurantee product or full refund. The PXDP and PXDX are interchangeable with many cars. You will need to set the dip switches to 3 and 8 to the on position for the C5 Corvette. This is a real simple install as well. Call me if you like. I will be at the shop form 9 on today
... so the next question that comes to mind is the installation...are there any decent tutorials out there showing step-by-step pics/instructions I can be pointed too?-M

Besides pulling the radio bezel. Its a matter of unpluggin the factory harness, pluggin in the new pxhgm4 to the factory harness and to the pxdp. Very very simple. Then just run the ipod cable.
The instruction for the PXDP are detailed and tell you what to do.
There is one torx screw behind sensor cover by ignition key to remove
there is one maybe two more in bottom ash tray section as well that need to be removed
pop traction control up unplug cig lighter and traction control
remove 2 nuts holding the front of the console down 10mm
there is 2 more at back of console
lift back of console and slide it back a couple inches
remove radio bezel
remove 2 screws that hold radio
unplug factory harness
plug in new harness
run ipod cable to desired location
reverse steps and put it all back together
will take you no more than an hour tops taking your time.
