So I read all the faq's which were overall very informative but didn't come across my exact issue.
Issue is no music out of left side of the car. I saw a post about this in the faq but it was referring to the door chime and that is not the case for me.
So, I thought I popped the 3.5" door speaker and picked up some polks to replace. Replaced both sides and all seemed ok. Well, now the problem is back. Zero sound is coming from the 10" sub and static is coming thru the front and rear speakers.
So my question is what could be causing this? Wiring makes sense to me but it was all stock, besides h/u, before I did the polks. I may pull the h/u out just to be safe but could it be the amp possibly? Is the amp running just the subs or side and center speakers too?
Looks like the amp is on the passenger side inside the car in the footwell. Is that correct?
Yeah the Bose amp is in the passenger footwell and from the sounds of things it's probably the issue. While the door subs are self-powered the Bose amp does the crossover and feeds the signal out to everything. You may want to post a WTB thread, lots of folks have pulled the Bose and you can probably get the amp cheap enough to try it.
Is it possible to swap in an aftermarket amp without major headache or is that more of a PITA than its worth?
Possible yes but in my opinion not worth the hassle unless you're going whole hog. The Bose speakers flat out couldn't hold up to the power output of any decent aftermarket amp so you'd have to replace amp AND speakers to make it worthwhile. If you're happy with the sound as-is then I'd replace the Bose amp with another.
