Default Need Help Troubleshooting a Sub in a C5

For my 98 Vert,I installed a JVC head unit w/ the Metra XVSI adapter a few weeks ago and everything actually worked great. I decided to add a sub box in the rear compartment today. Everything is wired up right and I get 12v to the power coming in on the amp, and I dont have any open lines when I check the ohms. As soon as I turn the car on though the volts drop to anywhere from 9.6 to 9.8., and the amp needs 10.8v min to run. Basically something is just not working right and the sub isnt working. Do I need to get rid of the Metra Adapter? Do I need to get rid of the pre-outs and use the speaker inputs? The JVC has 5v preamp out.
Does anyone have any ideas what it might be?

Thats what I was hoping it was, it was getting late and I didnt feel like messing with it anymore last night. The previous owner had an amp in it, all I did was reuse the power cords. I know its grounded on the passenger side by the seat belt anchor bolt.

If the voltage only drops when you turn on the new amp, I'd check the way everything is connected to it, could be the amp is shorting out somehow. Try removing everything except the power and trigger wires, then take voltage measurements.

I actually had gotten it working last night. I took the ground off the passenger seat belt and wire wheeled it shiny and tightened it back up. It must have had some dirt or oil on because the amp fired right up after that.
