Hardwire Radar to speaker, yes speaker ;)
Situation:
I have an 08 Z and an Escort 8500. Like others, I enjoy cranking up the radio while driving.
Problem:
Between the road noise from the tires and the radio, I can't hear the radar detector alert. It's in my line of sight enough to be seen if I'm paying attention to it, but otherwise, I often don't see it.
Result:
Ticket for 81 in a 65. Detector was redlined but I didn't look at it until he was pulling out of the intersection and it was too late.
Potential Solution:
I want to know if it would be possible to disconnect the tiny speaker in the detector and run it either directly to the driver's side speaker, or piggyback it off the factory harness so that it runs through the Bose amp (have a Kenwood eXcelon 8120 running through stock amp/speakers).
Questions:
1. Anyone done it?
2. What wire should it go to if I run it through the amp?
3. Could it be run in through the harness on the back of the mirror somehow?
4. Anything else I should know?
