Default C6: Running Onstar through center speaker when installing Nav

Guys,
I am installing DNX9960 into my 08 C6 1LT. I am using GMAH24 and GMAHCM modules. I am keeping stock car speakers, so I run Kenwood speaker outputs to GMAH24 RAD-18 connector speaker inputs. I am using Chris (username “30MilesOffshore”) write up as a guide. I want to run center speaker for Onstar only. This is what Chris says for center speaker connection: “GM-2412 harness, the speaker gets connected to (Pin 3 + Pin 11)”.

My question is which option to use:

1) If I splice Pins 3/11 to center speaker on GM2412 connector, then I may hear Onstar on all speakers since I am using stock car speakers connected to GMAH24 peripheral.

2) If I cut off pins 3/11 from GM2412 connector, and then run the cut off wires to center speaker, then I should hear Onstar through center speaker only. Will cutting Pins 3/11 screw something up? I think this is the correct way to go, but it would be great if somebody could confirm this.

The reason the question arises is because “_Nomad_” and Chris did not use stock speakers and either slicing or cutting did not matter.
Thanks, Tomas

I did not hook up the Onstar speaker but my understanding is Option 2 would be the correct way to go. I would confirm this with Nomad first because he did actually wire the center channel up for Onstar.

You would use the two wires from the GM-2412 (16-Pin Harness). This is the connection which plugs into factory harnesses. You would run some wire from the center speaker and connect them to:

Pin 3 - (brown/white) - connect to OnStar speaker (-) terminal
Pin 11 - (purple/white) - connect to OnStar speaker (+) terminal

The GMAH-24 will be the power supply for the onstar speaker and there is a small hole where you can adjust the volume by turning the screw.

Chris,

So if I cut the wires and use GMAH24 side of cut wires to connect to the center speaker: Leave the C6 wire harness side of 12 pin connector unconnected, correct? This means that Onstar signal comes through 24 pin factory wire harness.

Well, I do not have Onstar subscription, and I do not know how to test it . It does not seem to be working though.

The GM-2412 is your output harness and according to their pin diagram the onstar connection for a mono speaker should be on pin 3 & 11. Hooking a speaker up to the two wires (purple/white & brown/white) coming off the GM-2412 harness should provide your onstar capability. However, it is going to be hard to confirm this unless you have an onstar signal coming out to listen to. I re-read Nomad's install and it sounds like he connected his center channel up in this same fashion and it worked for him.

**Make note to be at the proper pin location because there is another purple/white wire located at Pin 7. This is for the Class II Data so you definitely don't want to connect into that.**

Here is the GM-2412 Pin Connector:

Just hitting the OnStar phone button on the mirror will activate the system. That's how I adjusted the volume on mine.
