Successful Bose Save
Don't trassh the Bose amps and speakers... they aren't all that bad!
The CD and tape in my HU don't work so replaced it with a low-mid end Pioneer deck. Used preamp out through adapter harness to the Bose amp connector. Needed isolation transformers to remove turn-on thumps but sounds pretty good. The Bose amp modules, although not all that reliable, can usually be repaired if you're good with a soldering iron.
