My XM subscription ran out. The vette is not my daily driver and I'll probably re-up. But, I'm having trouble with regular FM reception. I know it shouldn't matter, but I'm not dreaming this. FM channels that used to come in clear don't any more. I've been living in this same area all my life. I'm west of Houston, TX about 40 miles. I know which FM channels come in good and which don't. AM doesn't seem to be affected. What's up with this?
It could be with the antenna. Most radios are all the same, but without a good antenna, antenna position or what not, you aren't going to get FM. I was in an area where one car had great reception and the other didn't.
I could be wrong in that some radios are able to boost the signal, but I'm a firm believer in a good antenna

The problem is that the corvette is plastic, so reception is never going to be any good. A steel bodied car will always have great reception because the whole body acts as an antenna

The car actually got pretty good FM reception before the XM subscription ran out. Where are the antennas for the AM/FM and XM anyway?
The AM and FM antennas are in the back and along the back side quarter panels. The antenna module is in the back just to the side of the hatch mechanism on the drivers side.
The Corvette uses an amplified antenna system. The XM and FM antennas and modules are complete separate units.
I have found on my aftermarket setup that my FM reception sucks bigtime because it does not interact with the antenna module the way the stock unit does. Short of installing a whip antenna on my roof, I have pretty much resigned myself to having crappy FM reception.
