Default Repl sub doesn't work - where to start?

I busted the cone in my JL Audio W3-D2 10". So I bought a used MTX-5500(http://forums.corvetteforum.com/audi...ofer-60-a.html). Sub is mounted in custom enclosure. Amp is JL Audio 500/5. I hooked to "+" wire to the "+" terminal and the other wire to the "-" terminal. How can I test to see if amp is working for sub out? Is there a way to test sub itself? Other speakers appear to be routed thru amp and they work, just not the sub. Sub was working before getting busted. Let me know if you need any more info.

BTW - W3 sub had an extra jumper wire running from one of "+" terms to "-". TIA.

Put a voltmeter on the amp outs and play a bass track. Measure <100 VAC.

Switch to continuity and run it across the sub terminals. If you don't have a continuity tester, use a 9v battery and see if it pops.

Got digital multimeter out but didn't see a setting for <100 on anything. Tried <200 v - nothing. What is VAC?

Volts AC

<200 is a fine setting.

With music playing you should see AC voltage jumping around on the meter.

9 volt battery to sub should pop and move slightly will tell if sub works or not
