OK, I've done the Double Din mod to my C5 with a new head unit and the stock Bose system, and am pretty happy with the results. I'd like a littler more bass, since the Bose system has alwasy been lacking in that area. Since my radio has a subwoofer output, I assume I can add a amplified subwoofer to the car that is not powered by the Bose system. It would seem to me all I'd need is switched power source and the wire from the head unit for control. I'm not looking to vibrate the car, only to improve the bass output. Has anyone done something similar, and what subwoofer would you recommend?
If all you need is a little more thump, something like a Bazooka tube dropped into the rear tub is an easy and relatively cheap solution. The 100w 6" tube fits with plenty of room to spare.
For connection to the radio, use the sub RCA outs and tap into the external amp wire coming out of the HU (usually blue/white) for the trigger. Power should come from battery, run ground to closest bolt you can get to.
There's a link in C5 audio FAQ thread for how to make your own sub box for the center tub, but that would require an external amp also.
Come up with a max $$ budget and it will dictate what you do.

Hey Phil,
I just did exactly what you are aiming to do. Namely, replace the HU with a Double DIN, add a dedicated sub amp and sub for a little extra oomph.
Contact Dennis. He will definitely set you up with exactly what you're wanting at a great price - that's what I did after some research. Dennis is very competitive and is selling some great products.
I went with one of his new stealth sub boxes that fits under the center cubby panel and fit it with a 10" Elemental Design sub that sounds clean, tight and musical. But there are a lot of great subs out there. I really love how it sounds for the price, though. I mounted the 1000w amp behind the waterfall in my vert and couldn't be happier.
Well, I pulled the plug and ordered a Kenwood KFC-W3012 12" subwoofer and stealth enclosure from Dennis at Double D Mods. Ordered an amp from Sonic Electronics along with an install kit. Will probably have more bass than I'm looking for, but the custom fit of the enclosure and the ability to hide it, is well worth it to me. i can always turn the bass down.

I just installed my stealth box from Dennis the other day and it ROCKS. Put the cover back over it. No rattles, no problems, just clean, tight, heavy bass that rocks. LOVE IT. My sub is a 10", with a 1k Kenwood amp, and it provides more than enough bass for me. Like you said, you can always tweak it down if it becomes too bottom heavy.
Talked to Dennis today. Not getting the Kenwood because they have been back ordered since July. Getting the Kicker CVT 124 instead. I suspect any name sub would be fine for me. I not looking to vibrate the windows, just add a little more bottom end.
