I've looked through the stikies, the faq, and search.
Just want to make sure I'm looking at up-to-date info.
I have a 2000 vette, 'vert.
Want to replace the factory radio, and, for now, keep the stock speakers.
I'm interested in a DD replacement, with nav, bluetooth, harddrive, and an external aux in.
A few questions:
1) any advice on the HU? I know pioneer used to make a nice unit when I first looked at this a few years ago. They still the best bet?
2) alo, I know I'm going to have to replace the bezel around the HU to fit a DD--- I know there was a guy on here that made them--- he still around?
3) as I'm not interested in replacing the speakers, I know I need some kind of adapter between them and my new HU--- what do I need to get?

I have all kinds of packages for you
I guess first question is how much you looking to budget or spend for this?
There is no new unit available right now with a hard drive built in
both Pioneer and Kenwood have USB features as well
whats more important NAV or the ipod features
Kenwood NAV is Garmin based and a little better than Pioneer
Pioneer ipod features are awesome and you can stream Pandora
Pioneer has 100.00 rebates good till the end of the month on both the 920 and 120 units right now as well.
Let me know a dolla range your looking to spendr and I can put a package together including the new double din bezel or the have yours sent in for modification

I'm looking to spend a total of aroune $1k... but + or - a few hundred isn't a big deal.
Ipod/iphone is useless to me--- I'm a die-hard android user.
Just as long as the unit has a standard aux input (mini stereo), thats fine for me.
Are there any units that take either an SD or a CF card? (I'm not talking about USB)? That would be fine in lieu of a hard drive.
By the way, I also have a 4g EVO that has great wifi sharing capabilities--- so wifi on the HU would be a plue (or even the ability to connect to the internet through a bluetooth connection)... but not a huge deal. Don't really anticipate doing much web-browsing while driving, but real-time traffic alerts would be a nice plus.
one more addition--- HD/sat radio would be nice as well. In order of importance:
1) Nav
2) aux input
3) some type of mass storage (SD/CD card preferable)
4) sat/HD radio
5) wifi/bluetooth
Kenwood 6960 has all but sd card slot
has front aux input
usb only for mass storage on flash drive
option for sat radio and hd radio(sirius only)
built in bluetooth
Pioneer x920bt
yes on nav
no on front aux input
yes on sd card slot and usb option
yes on sat radio xm or sirius and would not do hd radio as its gone for pioneer in 2011

Pioneer sounds like the way to go. I can forego the front aux input if it has a sd slot.
How much would a package cost, including modified front bezel?

let me know which you like and I can add the ipod cable link, sat radio link and or hd radio link from website
note
I am running 5-6 weeks out right now on bezels due to just simply being slammed with orders. Sorry for this but I want to be upfront about it right now.
Let me know on options andand any questions
thanks
Dennis
dennis i think he is looking for the seperate steering wheel remote pioneer used to include it on some higher end models and made it an option for most... i think its still available as an option

exactly- I know c5 doesn't have steering whell controlls--- I've seen some radios that have add-on that attaches to the steering wheel.
Trust me, replace the speakers and add a sub. The stock speakers are trash. I got Alpine Type S for the doors and behind the seat. They sound good, but you NEED a sub to get any kind of real quality.
Here's what I have and prices:
HU: Eclipse AVN5500 dvd+nav $250 used
4 Alpine Type S 6.5" coaxials $100 new
Eclipse amp for above $60 used
Sony Xplod 1200W sub amp $80 used
Dual 12" box w/Kenwood subs $80 used (will be replaced with a single 15")
Wiring and misc $125 (rough estimate)
Total: ~$750 +/-
Install was relatively easy (at least compared to a sedan with a trunk). You will need to upgrade the Big 3.

I agree-- don't need to convince me. Just don't have the $$ or the time to do everything right now. I'm going to start with the headunit and bezel now (which looks like it will run me close to around $2k for what I want)... and down the road replace the speakers, add an amp and a subwoof.

best way to do it in steps.
saves you money from having to redo eveyrthing 2 times to get what you want in the end
I'm torn between the normal bezel and the leather wrapped bezel-- have any pics of the leather ? I'm debating if it will look cheezy in an otherwise leather-less interior

I dont have a full leather installed pic i dont think on this computer
I have the half wrap in my car with hydro center. They do get bulky looking because of the seams
you would only be able to do a full wrap in the no ash tray bezel
