Default C6 door speaker?

I'm about to upgrade the speakers (Bose) in the doors. I got some Polk db6501 components. Do the tweeters fit behind the grill on the door panel in place of the 3" Bose drivers? I don't want to have to cut a hole for them to go on the outside of the panel. I do have some adapter plates on the way too. Also, where is a good place to mount the crossover box? Finally, can the speaker wire be run through the same place as the factory wires on the door to get into the interior? I'm looking forward to doing this project. The sound system in this car is the only thing about it that I can't live with.

The first question that will be asked is;
How do you plan to power the new speakers ?

I will be using the factory nav HU. I got an ADD-GM24 harness. I will alter it to add the RCA connectors and run RCA cables to an aftermarket amp. Front channels will be used for the front speakers and rear channels will power the sub. I will be getting a sub in the back in the near future. Just upgrading the door speakers for now.
I read through that audio thread. That's where I came up with the plan for using the factory HU and the altered harness.

I'm thinking about using those speakers in my Z. I have had Image dynamics and now have memphis in the doors. I've had Polks and like the clean sound...post up how you like the sound.

to the other guys ... is mounting the tweet that high in the door too far from the 6.5" ? My ID speakers sounded good but seems to have no Bass to them and I heard the tweet might have been too high or too far away from the other driver. True ? Will his Polks sound better if the tweet is mounted closer together ? It seems like a logical choice to put the tween in the upper door but i really wonder if it is best location. Even at -3db on the crossover the tweet seemed to override the mid-bass in the lower part of the door.

I'm not trying to hijack this tread but it might help the orig. poster

thx guys

IMO door will see more vibrations and moisture. Literally under the dash look up under there plenty of room on each side

Actually, the tweet in the door is closer to the mid range than usual factory mounted tweets in other cars I think. I've seen a lot of tweets mounted in the pillar and on top of the door. I get what your saying though. At first I was considering coaxial or some triaxial speakers instead of components but I got a good buy on these Polks from another forum member here.

I was thinking the same thing about the vibration. They would take a pounding mounted to the doors.

I have my X-overs mounted under the dash. I was always taught by someone I respected in car audio to never mount the x-overs in the doors due to the slamming, vibration and moisture.

I know my crossovers where tucked into the panels in the foot wells right in front of the doors. You can actually put them behind the plastic side plates without "mounting" to anything. Mine seemed to fit tightly, but I guess it depends on the size of the crossover.
