1999 Chevy Astro - Radio is locked out since I changed the battery and I can't remember the code since it has been over three years. Is there a way to bypass the codes other than going to the dealer and having them do it? They want to charge me $60.00.
1. Turn the ignition on.
2. Turn the radio on so that is displays LOC
3. Hold down the buttons for the radio presets 2 and 3 for six (6)
seconds. The display will show a number, write this number down.
4. Now press the AM/FM button. The radio will display another three digit
number, Write this number down behind the first number.
5. Call this number 1-800-537-5140, and enter this Authorization
Code - 139010 followed by the pound ( # ) sign
6. Enter your 4 or six digit code followed by the asterisk ( * ) sign.
7. They will tell you your code so write it down. Ex. XXYY <-- Code
8. Return to you vehicle, Use the minute ( MIN ) button to enter the YY portion of the code
9. Us the hour ( HR ) button to enter the XX portion of the code.
10. Now press the AM/FM button. Your radio should be unlocked.
Dealer is ripping you off. They should give you the code as a courtesy. All it is is a phone call or lookup on a computer. I'd call GM directly or try a different dealer.
I agree!! Considering I bought four vehicles in the past four years from that dealership. I cannot believe that all it takes is a phone call.
By the way..... the instructions worked. I unlocked the code within 5 minutes. I feel like writing a letter to the dealer and GM about this. Can you believe it... 40 bucks for a phone call.
