I just bought Cerwin-Vega 4x6 "plate system" speakers. They are a tweeter and a mid-range mounted on a plastic "plate." They have 3 prongs on the back, and none are labeled and there is no schematic in the instructions!!!!!!!!!!! The instructions do say to be careful to hook + to + and - to -. No sh__!:mad
Each prong is bigger than the other--like the 3 bears. Of course, here on earth, there are 2 speaker wires for each speaker. Which 2 do I hook up, and which is positive and which is negative.
If it helps, a RED wire runs to the biggest prong. A black wire runs to the medium prong, and a blue wire runs to the tiny prong.
It looks like the leads off the mid-range go to the black and blue prongs. The red wire comes off of the circuit board behind the tweeter and into the big prong.
Sorry for the sarcasm, but after tearing out my dash, I don't need to be guessing on the hook up. Please help.
You have 3 prongs on the back because you have the option of using the passive crossover that is hooked to the 4x6 or not. If you choose not to use the crossover (using a crossover on the amp or an external one) then just use the red and black wires. If you want to use the passive crossover on the 4x6, Use the blue prong. (you really should use some sort of crossover on plates)
(Prong colors vary from speaker company to speaker company) but that’s the reason for having 3 prongs. They really should have given an instruction sheet with those 4x6’s.
