I'm wanting to build a box for my Hardtop out of MDF. I am trying to keep the outside dimensions to 11" tall, 45" wide, and minimal depth ( 6 or 7" if possible). This is to fit in the space where the partition would go in a FRC (directly under the rear window). To take up as little space as possible without compromising too much sound quality, what is the minimal depth I could make the box and what sub(s) should I use? 1 or 2 10" subs or 2 8" subs? If I have the volume that the sub(s) requires, is it ok if the rear of the magnet is within an inch or so of the back of the box?
Allow at least a 1/2 " from the backside of the speaker magnet to the face of the box wall, for cooling if the speaker has a voice coil vent hole. 2 - 10" subs with the same amount of power will move more air, ie slightly louder than 2 - 8's. Depending on how much room you want to use up or keep would also be a determining factor, as well as how loud and what type of music do you primarily listen to. God Luck. :yesnod:
