Poor reception in a C1- Cause?
My 58 came with the base Custom Autosound (230) radio. I believe it was new. The reception is pretty weak meaning it fades pretty easily even on FM. The antenna is original (or original type) and I know for sure that the antenna cable is 35 years old +/- because the there is paint spray on it from and old restoration.
I'd like to know possible causes and remedies and I don't know much about this.
Assumung the radio is functioning normally
- Is it possible that the cable is old and not functioning well? While the interior is out I'm going to replace it anyway. Can I use a universal cable? Is there a specific plug for the antenna side or should it be universal? Are there varied quality or matched cables I should look for?
- Could it be that this old antenna is not good or matched to the radio? It does extend up and it seems to me that metal is metal.
- I see that there are antenna booster boxes for cars that don't have antennas. Is this better than a standard antenna set up?
