Im trying to figure out what is the best way SQ wist to hook up my ipod to the Pioneer AVH-P4200DVD. I have run into two different adapters. One for just audio and another for both audio and video. Im wondering if one is better than the other and here is what I am thinking. The audio only connector outputs a digital signal therefor utilizing the DAC inside of the head unit. The audio and video adapter seems to incorporate a analog connection for the audio meaning it uses the DAC in the ipod. I don't know if my thinking is correct and it really doesn't matter. Im an just wondering which connection would yield better SQ?
You are lucky. My 2 pioneer headunits require a specific interface (1 uses the a/v interface, the other is usb only). The USB only one, I would suggest not buying pioneers cable. It is just a regular ipod dock connector (you can use your existing one, or do like me and buy one for $1.99 on ebay). The a/v cable is proprietary I think (though it may not be). The advantage to the a/v cable is both videos and seeing the album art on the head unit. IMHO, the usb cable is better because the DAC in the ipod sucks. I've heard rumors that if you get protected files from itunes, you must play them with the analog output because the drm doesn't allow transferring the files over usb to the headunit. I don't use the ITMS so I don't know if this is true or not, though it makes lots of sense.
If you go with the audio only cable, since its all digital, quality doesn't matter as long as it works. USB cables are cheap. Paying for the pioneer one is rediculous.

it might be but some of the cheap EBAY ones WILL NOT WORK!
