Maybe some of you guys remember me from a while back. I had designed a front stage using traditional raw drivers. This was in Komoman's C6. I have light experience with HLCD drivers. My only question concerned the available space for a wide horn body.
If Rick says they fit physically, then he's absolutely on the right track. The best car systems I have ever heard were all HLCD in front. The far-and-away finest-sounding system I have ever heard was from Speakerworks and Richard Clark http://http://www.usdaudio.com/sw/cars/buick/page1.html. HLCD is the best pure path to proper staging and realism. Thanks for bringing this up Rick!!

YOU GUYS!!!

I'm in what I thought was the final stages of planning a 3-Way front stage, with 8"s in the doors taking care of all desired frequencies, now you've got me excited.

Can we put a rush on this?! I'm SOOO tired of the factory Bose system

Glad to be of help I wish I had done a horn install years ago, really really wish I had. The only setup I have built and the only one I though came near the dynamics of horns was the Rainbow References, dual custom ID midbasses, 900 watts of quad amped power per side, $5k in processors, and tons of work to make it happen, huge kick panels, etc.........it was my system, $20k retail in gear alone, hundreds of hours on the install......

7 page article on my old Tacoma(which is physically an ideal SQ vehicle to start with) note however the install was not finished at this time and the system was not even well tuned. I had mini Recaro seats I was building to go over the subs, molded FG console cover, kicks were to be covered in vinyl, etc....but they wanted to get it in the mag right away so it went in as it was. This system beat a prior world champ, two months before I had a completely different system and beat him the first time so he built a brand new truck in his super high end shop to get even with me since I beat him in front of his pro football player customers. I did all my work outdoors in my backyard and commuted to a 50 hours a week job. I could never have done what I did without the help of the guys at Arc Audio and Image Dynamics, especially how to image and tune(which I would absolutely have Eric Stevens do no matter how good I thought my tune was, he will blow it away in no time at all)

------------

I could of done this with 25% of the time and less than half the money using horns!!!!!

High output midbasses or sub frequency drivers in the doors of a Vette are going to take considerable effort to do right and deal with the resonances. I was deep into that and just stopped working on it, I can put a good sub in the back for a huge amount less effort, better results and if I want to track the car just pop it out.

--------

But, I love the ID X69's in my truck doors so have a set I might try later in the Vette but it already is built far beyond what a good 6.5 will require.

I will end up just running those I am sure since they are incredible 6.5 drivers with huge output and SQ, the ID X65's

--------

I started using raw drivers years ago as well, Seas, Scan Speak, even some PE RS like in my old Taco now, full size aluminum Seas tweets, RS180 midbass drivers in very very well imaged kick panels, they are great.

I would look into those for the Vette but the ID x65 is outstanding and very very low in weight, 2 lbs less per speaker than the nearest other driver I would consider!

The horns, the latest lower costs ID driver is superb, I love their horn bodies and they are engineered to work together. Plus I have direct support from ID, where I got the install info. This has been done and done very well, I am not inventing anything except how they will be mounted, not where, just how

For the cost of the midbass drivers, horns, amps, etc.... when you get a system package deal from me, super low weight install materials, use the right tiny amps, etc.... yes, we can have a stellar world class system for not a ton of money or effort to install it, win, win and win!!!!!

I am losing money at this, why? Because this is fun more than business, my time is far more valuable to put into my core business that spending it on these systems, very much so, but I am having a blast, more fun than I have had in many years in car audio

I was very fortunate to attend an special event in AZ years ago, judges training from the top IASCA judge where the other classmates were mostly highly regarded judges. Then 10 cars from around the country competing for a big cash prize. I got to co judge them and they were all amazing but quite honestly I liked my truck system better that all but three of them. My truck imaged, etc...exceptionally well but it was the pure dynamics of super high end, very fast and articulate drivers with tons of power, something we can do with horns for a great deal less money, power, etc........and easier install in these cars, by far!

One cool thing, mentioned before, is the systems I have sold only require the horns and a tiny amp to make the upgrade to this for those looking for something over the top

It will require a good source unit, EQ, etc....to bring out the best as it does in any super high end system...

That is why I am really excited by the new Alpine H800 soon to be released, small, very powerful, auto tuning with fine tuning by ear(I will enlist the best tuner in the world in my opinion(and many others) to fine tune the cars. If the same system I am using is installed I will be able to send the same exact tuning info, world class tune at your disposal, something you cannot get from very many sources, hardly anybody out there has a clue on tuning, sad but true, I am going to make it available, for free

And, you can use a DD NAV HU, the new Alpine, the JVC NT3, etc.....we get to have loaded DD NAV with good sound, finally

Quick question: How do the ID HLCD differ from the "USD Waveguides" from the "old days?"

I have never had the USD waveguides though I have been there, seem them, listened to the Buick, etc......I have heard far more IDs and love them, all I can say without making up some biased remark which I really try hard not to do

H800 is supposed to retail for $699 I have heard, there will be deals on them eventually.
I am getting a couple at dealer cost but considering calling somebody I know there to see if I can get an special deal on mine since I really hope to be able to recommend them to everyone

If these do what they are supposed to do we can all benefit a great deal by running one!
