tried the reset button again, no luck. tried disconnecting battery for 15 minutes, no luck. Kenwood is saying i need to send it in for service. bummer, its not even 2 years old and gets very little use. I may just settle using screen angles 2-5, instead of pulling it out and sending it in somewhere.
Check to see if your dash kit is preventing the face from moving into those positions. In most installs, the rear of the HU is not supported, causing the dash kit to front the weight of the entire HU. In turn, over a period of time, the mounting screws slip a little causing insufficient clearance at the bottom of the dash kit opening. This of course will prevent the face from retracting. Easier to check this first before removing and sending for repair.
The plastic side piece is much to fragile to keep the HU secure. On my 9140, I custom built the side piece from 3/16" aluminum stock, giving it the strength to support the HU. No more bending the plastic when tightening the mounting screws either. This will also allow custom mounting holes so that the HU can be moved inward to flush-mount the front of the face.
