Ok guys, here we go. I have an '01 Z06 and I HATE the sound quality that is being kicked out. I would like to replace the stereo with a DD that can use the iphone nav capabilities so i dont have to drop another $400 on nav. I dont really want to spend more than $450 on the head unit, give or take a little. Since Im redoing that, might as well throw in a sub while Im at it. Dennis from DD mods has been helping me quite a bit and recommended a 10", which I think should work just fine. Ok, gonna need an amp for the sub..any suggestions?
You had me nodding until Sony. At which point, I instantly felt ill and all the blood rushed from my head and I threw up in my mouth.
No, but seriously,
I'm a rabid fanboi of ArcAudio when it comes to amplifiers. I think they are the best when it comes to price/value.
I'm sure Dennis can offer a better amp choice than the Sony - I think he's selling Vibe amps now (or soon) and from what I understand they may share some features/design with ARC but at a lower cost.
Hahaha, thats exactly what my roomie said about Sony. But he also is the one that suggested it to me. Said the reviews were great and it should have plenty of output for what I need.
Dennis has been MORE than helpful, just flat out amazing. I think Ive asked him a million questions and want to give him more time to deal with his immediate customers. Thats the only reason I started this thread. Plus, that Sony is about 60-70 cheaper than the Vibe...
I do want a little boom boom... Thats why Im only going with a 10". Honestly, havnt even looked at speakers.. And I want to see how much the new stereo helps with the sound before I go speakers.
On the DD, I would go with the Pioneer AVH-P4300DVD. I have the previous model AVH-P4200DVD in my daily driver. It's an awesome player without a doubt. You won't be disappointed. So I bet the newer AVH-4300DVD is even better. I never had any good luck with jvc radios in the past.

Not yet, just the stereo. One of these days I'll upgrade the speakers to something better.
The speakers and their terribly weak power are the one of the main (of many) culprits to the poor sound in the stock blose system. Paper coned, PA level magnet/motor structures etc. Save for another month or two and add component speakers in the front, you will not regret it.

It depends on your budget. Any component set under $100 will pretty much be crap. Polk db6501 are a good set for the price, they can be found for $125 or less. If you don't mind getting slightly used speakers the CDT's for sale HERE are a great value. I'm currently using the CL-E61CF and I think they're amazing for $160 shipped (usually around $350 new).
